I’ve no idea where the whole ‘flora’ theme comes from for developers Timothy Barraclough and Paul Mathews but there series of stripped-down, stompbox ethic, iOS audio effects apps are all very good indeed. I’ve reviewed all the apps in the series – Cactus Chorus, Phlox Phaser, Saffron Saturator, Buttercup Bitcrush, Dahlia Delay and Tiger-lily Tremolo – previously here on the blog and, at UK£1.99/US$1.99 each, they are about as an obvious casual purchase as you are likely to find.
As I’ve reported over the last few weeks, Timothy and Paul have started to add AUv3 support to the series and the lastest of them to get this treatment is Tiger-lily Tremolo with the v.2.0 update that appeared on the App Store yesterday. As with Buttercup Bitcrush, Phlox Phaser and Saffron Saturator, Tiger-lily Tremolo is now available within your favourite AU hosts…..
The update also brings some considerable performance improvements (a good thing if you want to run multiple instances under AU), improved stability, AU presets (in some hosts; this seems to work well in AUM but not in Cubasis; I suspect this is host-related though rather than something about Tiger-lily Tremolo itself) and a new logo and colour scheme.
However, there is no change to the super-simple approach or control set; like the other ‘flora series’ apps there is no frills, no fuss, and just a stripped-down series of controls so you can get to your sound as quickly as possible. Tiger-lily Tremolo does, however, over two pages of controls; just tap the arrow head at the side of the screen to move between them.
As with all the apps within the series, Tiger-lily Tremolo is universal, requires iOS9.0 or later and , in addition to AUv.3 support, it is also supplied with Audiobus and IAA support…. and to repeat, for the budget conscious, the app is currently priced at UK£1.99/US$1.99…. that’s instead of your small morning caffeine purchase :-)
Don’t let the price fool you into thinking that they might not cut it sonically; they all sound very good indeed. Like Cactus Chorus, Phlox Phaser, Buttercup Bitcrush, Saffron Saturator or Dahlia Delay, Tiger-lily Tremolo is not going to stretch your budget too far so don’t overthink it :-). If you fancy the occasional bit of audio wobbling, Tiger-lily Tremolo is just the thing…. The video below shows the earlier version in action but, colour scheme aside, the mode of operation remains the same…. Read the original Tiger-lily Tremolo review, watch the video then hit the download button to find out more via the App Store :-)
