PPG Infinite launched – highly anticipated iOS synth from Wolfgang Palm now available

There has been quite a bit of pre-release buzz, but synth pioneer and all-round creative mind Wolfgang Palm has now introduced his long-awaited new synth iOS app; PPG Infinite has hit the App Store today. Wolfgang is undoubtedly a bit of a synth super-hero to many. He was the man behind wavetable synthesis back in the 1970s but, even some 40 years later, he is still bringing new ideas to the world of synthesis. Amazingly, that includes the contributing to the world of iOS music making and he … [Read more...]

FuzzPlus 3 review – Audio Damage drop some free fuzz

As I posted earlier today, Audio Damage have released another interesting iOS music app this week - Phosphor 2 is their first synth offering - to follow up on a very rapid release schedule that has included Rough Rider 2, Grind Distortion, Eos 2, Dubstation 2 and Replicant 2, all within the last few weeks. However, while Phosphor 2 might be the headline new release, it's not the only own; we also get FuzzPlus 3 :-) As the name might suggest, FuzzPlus 3 is a fuzz/distortion effect and, while … [Read more...]

Phosphor 2 released – Audio Damage add a synth to their iOS AU app catalogue

Audio Damage appear to be on a mission when it comes to iOS music apps at present. I've reviewed Rough Rider 2, Grind Distortion, Eos 2, Dubstation 2 and Replicant 2 all within the last few weeks. However, things don't seem to be slowing down just yet as now we have the release of Phosphor 2. Where as the apps listed above have all been audio processors/effects of one type or another, Phosphor 2 is Audio Damage's first iOS synth offering.  Again, it is a port of a desktop version that has, in … [Read more...]

KASPAR review – Yonac bring you 8 iOS synths in one

I’ve reviewed a number of Yonac’s iOS music apps here on the Music App Blog over the years including ToneStack and Steel Guitar, both of which I really like. However, Yonac also do keyboard-based iOS music apps and, as I posted a few days ago, their latest release is KASPAR, a brand new synth app. The headline reading ‘new iOS synth app!’ might, of course, have your eyes rolling as you are already well-saturated in terms of virtual synth ownership. However, there are some interesting elements … [Read more...]

KASPAR launched – Yonac deliver their new ‘8 synths in one’ iOS music app – and ON SALE

I've reviewed a number of Yonac's iOS music apps here on the Music App Blog over the years including ToneStack and Steel Guitar, both of which I really like. However, Yonac also do keyboard-based iOS music apps and their latest release is KASPAR, a brand new synth app and which appeared on the App Store today. I've only had the briefest of plays so far but there are some cool sounds to be had. However, there are also some interesting elements to the design that will, I'm sure, catch the … [Read more...]

Layr giveaway results – two winners of Living Memory Software’s excellent multi-timbral synth app

If you are an iOS music maker with a bit of a synth habit, then you will already be well aware of Living Memory's iOS mega-synth Layr. The app has been widely praised and, I suspect, helped to spoil more than a few 'I don't need any more iOS synths' promises that folks had made to themselves. If you are an iOS music maker with a bit of a synth habit, then you will already be well aware of Living Memory's new iOS mega-synth Layr. If you are an iOS music maker with a bit of a synth habit, then you will already be well aware of Living Memory's iOS mega-synth Layr. The app was released in March and has been widely praised. Mersenne updated – iceWorks add AU support and sale pricing for their iOS FM synth

There are, of course, no shortages of iOS music apps that offer virtual synthesis and we are blessed with some fabulous synth apps that run under iOS. Slightly left-of-centre options amongst this lot include the various offerings by iceWorks (iceGear) and include the likes of  Lorentz, Laplace and, more recently, Redshrike. The list also includes Mersenne which I reviewed some 15 months or so ago when it was first released. The synth engine offers two FM-based sound sources (Tone A and Tone … [Read more...]
