WOW Filterbox updated – Sugar Bytes bring Ableton Link to their flexible audio filter app

As regular readers of the blog will be aware, I’m a self-confessed of a fan of Sugar Bytes and I use Turnado, Thesys, Egoist, Cyclop and Effectrix on a regular basis in my iOS music making. I also own a number of these in their desktop formats and, again, they get regular use. Sugar Bytes other iOS port of one of their desktop plugins is WOW Filterbox and I reviewed this  when the iOS version was first released. While this app doesn't perhaps get the headlines that some of the … [Read more...]

I'm a self-confessed fan of Sugar Bytes and I think all of the iOS ports of their desktop music software. while occasionally requiring a set of reading glasses (for those of us of a certain age at least) are extremely well done and very creative. I've reviewed Turnado, Effectrix, WOW Filterbox, Thesys, Egoist and Cyclop on the Music App Blog at one stage or another. I don't know about you, but I'm a huge fan of the iOS apps produced by Sugar Bytes and I've reviewed Turnado, Effectrix, WOW Filterbox, Thesys, Egoist and Cyclop on the Music App Blog at one stage or another. These are all brilliant and I use all of them on a regular basis (as well as the desktop versions of Egoist, Turnado and Thesys). Sugar Bytes are not, however, one of the developers who are pushing out a constant stream of updates so it is always good to see a favourite app of theirs get a … [Read more...]

Cyclop updated – Sugar Bytes add Ableton LINK to their mono synth app

The iOS music making community got quite excited a few weeks ago with the launch of Ableton's new LINK technology that - with suitably LINK-enabled apps - allows you to synchronise the playback and tempo of various music apps in a way that ought to be possible with MIDI Clock Sync but, under iOSD at least, isn't (well, some of the time at least). LINK seems to be very solid technology within the limited number of apps that we have so far seen add the protocol...  so what we need now is simply … [Read more...]

Egoist update – Sugar Bytes apply some tweaks to their brilliant iOS groove instrument

Sugar Bytes have built quite a fan base amongst iOS musicians with apps such as Effectrix (a step-based multi-effects sequencer), Turnado (real-time multi-effects), Thesys (a very powerful step-sequencer plugin) and Cyclop (their mono/bass synth instrument). Their other headline app - Egoist - which I reviewed when it was released, caused quite a stir and, if you are into electronic music production combining sliced loops, bass grooves and drum beats, the app ought to be right up your … [Read more...]

Cyclop updated – Sugar Bytes start a round of compatibility updates?

As most long-standing iOS music makers would be expecting, there is a flurry of minor technical updates appearing on the App Store at present as developers do their best to ensure a smooth passage into iOS9 for their own particular apps.
