midiSTEPs giveaway – 5 copies of beautifully designed four-part iOS MIDI sequencer to be won

I reviewed midiSTEPs on the blog just after it was released. There is some considerable iOS pedigree behind midiSTEPs as the developer is Art Kerns who will be well known to regular iOS musicians through apps such as midiLFOs and Funkbox, both of which I’ve reviewed here on the Music App Blog in the past. MidiSTEPs, at one level, is a fairly conventional step-based pattern sequencer with patterns featuring up to 64 steps (with control over step-length relative to the musical grid) and you can … [Read more...]

Audio Evolution Mobile Studio update – rapid updates to new iOS DAW/sequencer

If you look at the desktop marketplace, the world is not short of DAW/sequencer options. And, if the likes of, for example, Cubasis, GarageBand or Auria Pro don't float your particular boat, as I posted last week, there is now a further option for you to consider; Audio Evolution Mobile Studio. As I discussed in the full review, I was impressed with the basic concept, the conventional design approach (which makes for a modest learning curve) and the sensible core feature selection. The 'free … [Read more...]

Audio Evolution Mobile Studio review – Extreme Software Development port their DAW/sequencer to iOS

If you look at the desktop marketplace, the world is not short of DAW/sequencer options. There are most certainly fewer choices under iOS and, with the exception of Cubasis and GarageBand, those options that are available are not really coming from development teams porting streamlined versions of their well-established DAW/sequencer over to iOS. Instead, we have a number of offerings that originate from the more niche iOS development community itself. In terms of popularity, my guess would … [Read more...]

midiSTEPs update – beautifully designed four-part iOS MIDI sequencer from Art Kerns gets further new features

I reviewed midiSTEPs on the blog just after it was released. n-Track Studio updated – n-Track Software’s multi-platform DAW/sequencer gets some tweaks

As regular readers here will be aware, my own use for iOS music technology is focused more on music composition and/or music recording than live performance. All of which makes it perhaps surprising that I had not, until recently, reviewed n-Track Studio DAW/sequencer (now something I've put right) for the Music App Blog. n-Track actually exists on the desktop (Windows and OSX), iOS and Android. This multi-platform approach might well make it very appealing to some potential users as it means … [Read more...]

n-Track Studio review – n-Track Software’s multi-platform DAW/sequencer in its iOS format

As regular readers here will be aware, my own use for iOS music technology is focused more on music composition and/or music recording than live performance. All of which makes it perhaps surprising that I have not, as yet, reviewed n-Track Software’s n-Track Studio DAW/sequencer app for the Music App Blog. This is perhaps all the more surprising given that n-Track has actually been around in one form or another for quite some time on the App Store…. very much ‘my bad’! n-Track actually … [Read more...]

Composer’s Sketchpad update – quirky composition tool from Alexei Baboulevitch gets some tweaks

One of the things I enjoy most about running the Music App Blog is that it can expose me to a wide variety of iOS music apps. While some can be great, but perhaps conventional, others are based around a core idea that is interesting or innovative in some way. One such app is Alexei Baboulevitch’s Composer’s Sketchpad that I reviewed on the site a few months ago. The app is iPad-only, requires iOS8.2 or later and is a 140MB download. The launch price is discounted at currently sits at just … [Read more...]

Fugue Machine SALE – bargain price on brilliant iOS sequencer concept from Alexandernaut

I reviewed the rather wonderful Fugue Machine from developer Alexandernaut when it was launched back in October. The app has caused quite a buzz online amongst the die-hard iOS music making faithful. The app is something familiar – in this case, a fairly simple piano-roll-based MIDI sequencer – but delivered with a considerable twist; multiple playheads. If you have not yet seen the app in action, then read the full review and watch the video below. Once you have seen it, you wonder why nobody … [Read more...]

Music Studio giveaway results – 5 winners of Xewton’s iOS DAW/sequencer

As I posted a week or so ago, Music Studio from Xewton has received a fairly substantial update recently including now becoming available to users on the Android platform. The iOS app has been around on the App Store since 2010, way before the Music App Blog came into being, but it has always struck me as a very functional recording platform. Currently priced at UK£10.99/US$14.99, it allows both audio and MIDI recording/editing in up to 127 tracks (although I suspect most iOS devices might … [Read more...]
