Syntronik launched – IK Multimedia port their hybrid virtual instrument to iOS

OK, so I know I'm a little late with this but, if you have not seen already, IK Multimedia have launched a new iOS music app called Syntronik. In fact, the app arrived a week or so ago and, if you like the sound of classic analog synths, then even if you are one of the iOS musicians who are a little less enthusiastic about what the more mainstream developers tend to offer, this app is at least worth a look....  and that's pretty easy to do because the core app is a free download.... In fact, … [Read more...]

SampleTank update – tweaks and new sounds for IK Multimedia’s sample-based virtual instrument

With RAM at a bit of a premium in older iOS hardware, the iPad or iPhone is perhaps not the platform to expect the most sophisticated of sample-based instruments to exist. However, that hasn't stopped a number of iOS music app developers from trying to squeeze as much performance out of the hardware as is possible. IK Multimedia's SampleTank is an excellent example; as a diverse source of sample-based instrument sounds, it does a very respectable job. IKM have a desktop version of SampleTank … [Read more...]

Miroslav Philharmonik 2 IAP review – can you cram an orchestra into an IOS app?

If money is no object, then you can take your pick of some truly wonderful sample-based virtual instruments for Windows/OSX that bring the sound of a full orchestra to your computer (actually, if money is no object, you would book a real orchestra, but that’s a different conversation!). At their very best – and full-exploited by a skilful composer – most listeners might find it difficult to distinguish between the computer-generated musical performance and ‘the real thing’, especially if they … [Read more...]

SampleTank sale – IK Multimedia’s sample-based virtual instrument gets limited-time SALE pricing

With RAM at a bit of a premium in iOS hardware (OK, the iPad Air 2 took us to 2GB but lots of iOS musicians are still using older hardware and not all apps can't necessarily exploit it fully even if you do own one), the iPad or iPhone is perhaps the platform to expect the most sophisticated of sample-based instruments to exist. However, that hasn't stopped a number of iOS music app developers from trying to squeeze as much performance out of the 1GB-equipped current generation of the hardware … [Read more...]
