Cubasis update – Steinberg makes Waves and bring a 50% sale with their brilliant iOS DAW/sequencer

While the blog might currently be in 'pop up' mode, as regular readers here will know, my personal iOS DAW/sequencer of choice is Steinberg's Cubasis, so I'm bound to be interested when Steinberg offer us something new..... hence the post today :-) Cubasis is undoubtedly a great app - and I think Steinberg have got the balance of features (just about) right for the iOS platform - but as I'm also a Cubase user on the desktop, Cubasis is a very obvious choice for me. As iOS hardware has … [Read more...]

Elastic Drums ON SALE – Oliver Greschke’s brilliant iOS drum app at a bargain price

If you are a regular visitor to the Music App Blog you might well be familiar with Elastic Drums from developer Oliver Greschke and Mouse On Mars. The app was great on first launch but Oliver has released a steady stream of very useful updates since then bringing improved IAA and Audiobus support plus a number of other new features, including, universal status, Ableton Link support and a new sampler playback engine. Audiobus 3 support is also now included. Anyway, if you have not yet … [Read more...]

fluXpad update – MoMinstruments make their left-field sample-based sequencer universal

I posted a full review of fluXpad when it was first released and it is perhaps most easily summarised as a sample-based sequencing environment. Of course, at it is from the Mouse On Mars team, fluXpad does come with a typical MoM twist; you  'draw' your pattern sequences for each sound. Multiple patterns (clips?) can be sequenced within a single project and these then triggers to create a full performance. As shown in the screenshots, given the 'drawing' element, the UI can look a little like a … [Read more...]

Positive Grid updates – PG’s key iOS music apps get Audiobus 3 support

While the road might not have been completely smooth, iOS musicians ought to have a lot of respect for what Positive Grid have done over the last few years. Their iOS music apps have proved to be very popular and deservedly so; they are very good at what they do. However, to then take the flagship iOS-based guitar rig modelling and port it over to the desktop world - a very competitive place - was a brave move. To then take that same technology and recreate it as a top-end modelling/profiling … [Read more...]

Cubasis update – new features and sale time for Steinberg’s brilliant iOS DAW/sequencer

As regular readers here will know, my personal iOS DAW/sequencer of choice is Steinberg's Cubasis. It's undoubtedly a great app - and I think Steinberg have got the balance of features (just about) right for the iOS platform - but as I'm also a Cubase user on the desktop, Cubasis is a very obvious choice for me. As iOS hardware has improved, so Steinberg have moved Cubasis forward, gradually adding now features and capabilities to the app with each update. And today a new update has arrived; … [Read more...]

SessionBand sale – all SessionBand apps currently at half price

If you have ever played one of the more 'consumer' orientated electric keyboards, you will be familiar with the concept of 'auto-accompaniment'; you play some chords and the keyboard does its best to add some bass and drums (for example). Way back when, perhaps 'cheesy' would have been the best way to describe this technology; it was music Jim, but not as we know it.... Thankfully, the musical AI behind this kind of approach has come some way since then and, while 'muzak' is still available … [Read more...]

Patterning update – Olympia Noise Co add the cloud to their brilliant iOS drum machine app

As most regular Music App Blog readers will be aware, I'm a bit of a fan of what developer Olympia Noise Co do with their iOS music apps. Chordion, Ondes and dot Melody are well worth checking out. However, as I commented when originally reviewing the app, Ben Kamen and the team at Olympia Noise Co toped the lot with their Patterning: Drum Machine. There are some fabulous iOS drum/groove apps available but Patterning is absolutely one of my favourite iOS music apps whatever category we happen to … [Read more...]

Auria Pro SALE – WaveMachine Labs iOS mega-DAW 50% off for limited time

So, summer is coming (well, here in the northern hemisphere at least) and that means lots of businesses (and some iOS music app developers included) are taking things a touch easier for a while as they peek out from their darkened programming suites and catch up on some vitamin D. However, while things might be a bit slower in terms of new apps or app updates, that doesn't mean our favourite iOS music app developers don't have something to tempt us....  and summer sales are a good way to go … [Read more...]
