RF-1 review – Numerical Audio add an AU reverb to their iOS music app catalogue

As I mentioned a few days ago, Numerical Audio - led by Kai Aras - have released a new iOS music app. The app, called RF-1, is a follow-up to the RP-1  that I reviewed here of the Music App Blog when it was first launched a few months ago. RP-1 provides a compact, but well-featured, delay effect and is capable of both conventional and more creative treatments. As well s a modest price (just UK£4.49/US$5.99) and stand-alone, Audiobus and IAA support, RP-1 also included both Ableton Link (tempo … [Read more...]

RF-1 launched – Numerical Audio add an AU reverb to their iOS music app catalogue

I reviewed the excellent RP-1 from Numerical Audio and developer Kai Aras here on the Music App Blog when it was first launched. It provides a compact, but well-featured delay effect and is capable of both conventional and more creative treatments. RP-1 is a universal app, requires iOS9.0 or later, is a 19MB download and is priced at just UK£4.49/US$5.99. As well as launching with Audiobus and IAA support, the app also included both Ableton Link (tempo sync your delays via Link) and Audio … [Read more...]

Envelope Reverb update – tweaks for AU format iOS reverb effect from DDMF

At few weeks ago, I posted a reviews of the new(ish) 6144 EQ and Envelope Reverb iOS audio effects apps from DDMF and developer Christian Siedschlag. Both of these are very capable audio processors in their own right but, given the desire from many iOS musicians to see the AU plugin format really take hold, the fact that both are also available as AU plugins only is also of considerable interest. 6144 EQ is a AU-only format equaliser plugin whose inspiration was the highly regarded Neve … [Read more...]

Envelope Reverb review – quality iOS reverb effect from DDMF in an AU format

At the start of this week, I posted a review of the new(ish) 6144 EQ plugin for iOS from Christian Siedschlag's DDMF. This is a AU-only format equaliser plugin whose inspiration was the highly regarded Neve 5033 hardware EQ processor. I've no idea how close 6144 - at a price of just UK£7.99/US$9.99 - gets to the (very!) expensive Neve but is sounds very good in its own right and, as an AU plugin (so you can use multiple instances of it in a suitable AU host), it is perhaps amongst the first … [Read more...]

iConvolver review – compact convolution reverb app for iOS from ART Teknika

There is a nice discussion (Friday night argument over a beer or three) to be had about the ‘most important processors’ required when it comes to the mixing stage of a project. In terms of getting your basic mix together, with each element of the performance balanced, it is difficult to look beyond EQ and dynamics control (compression, limiting, etc.). However, there is a good case for ‘ambience’ or ‘spatial’ placement being next in the pecking order and a core part of that may well revolve … [Read more...]

Reverb FDN update – Amazing Noises’ reverb app gets some tweaks

I posted a review of Amazing Noises pocket-money priced, but very effective, ‘Reverb – Feedback Delay Network’ app when it was first released back in December 2014. The app has had a number of minor updates since release but v.1.2 arrived on the App Store over the week-end. We have a number of very good conventional reverb apps available for iOS with apps such as AltiSpace, AudioReverb, AD 480 Reverb and also a few somewhat left-field processors based around reverb such as Deregulator and, … [Read more...]

Reverb FDN review – Amazing Noises new reverb app with a ‘twist’

I posted a review of Amazing Noises pocket-money priced – but very effective – Limiter iOS music app last week. As I mentioned then, the company has also released a further app in the last few weeks and Reverb – or to give it its full title ‘Reverb – Feedback Delay Network’ – is the subject of this review. We have a number of very good conventional reverb apps available for iOS with apps such as AltiSpace, AudioReverb, AD 480 Reverb and also a few somewhat left-field processors based around … [Read more...]

Limiter and Reverb launched – Amazing Noises bring new audio effects apps to the App Store

Come on, keep up! OK, I admit that I can't either... there are just too many new iOS music apps appearing at any one time to really follow everything that's happening :-) Which is not necessarily a bad thing unless, of course, you have a complete app addiction and lack the will power to resist a new toy (I think I qualify here). While I still have not managed to get around to a review of Gliderverb from developer Amazing Noises, the company snuck in Limiter to the App Store just before … [Read more...]

AltiSpace review – new convolution reverb app from Igor Vasiliev

If you have an iOS-based recording habit of any long-standing then you will probably be very familiar with the iOS music apps developed by Igor Vasiliev under his iMusicAlbum label. I’ve reviewed a number of these apps in the past – Audio Mastering, Master FX and Master Record – and they all are well worth owning. Audio Mastering gave us the first stand-alone app for, well…  audio mastering since you ask. It does a great job at a great price and can achieve some pretty remarkable results in … [Read more...]
