Nave update – Waldorf bring iOS9 support to their flagship iOS synth

Waldorf's Nave is most definitely one of my favourite iOS synths (it appears in the Music App Blog '25 iOS music apps to get you started' guide) and I did a full review of the app when it was first released. It is a brilliant virtual synth with an amazing interface and some incredibly deep programming options. As the app also features Audiobus and IAA support, it is very easy to integrate it into a wider iOS music production workflow. Waldorf on not, however, one of the 'regular update' type … [Read more...]

Nave desktop review – Waldorf Music port their iOS synth app to VST/AU/AAX desktop formats

A few months ago, I reviewed Positive Grid’s BIAS Amps here on the blog when the company took the (quite bold) step of porting what had been a very successful iOS music app over to the desktop in a VST/AU plugin format. Positive Grid must be quite happy with how that went as they are in the process of doing the same thing for the new(er) BIAS FX…. While we see lots of ports of successful desktop music software coming to iOS, so far at least, software going in the other direction has been a … [Read more...]

Nave sale – Waldorf’s brilliant wavetable synth at a bargain price

Isn't Thanksgiving and the Black Friday/Cyber Monday thing just mad? A pre-Christmas spending splurge is pretty much guaranteed with so many app developers seem to run sale promotions on their apps in the run up to the holidays in order to tempt us to treat ourselves to an early present or two. And latest off the line are Waldorf who are currently offering the rather wonderful Nave at UK£6.99 rather than the more usual UK£13.99. Nave is a brilliant virtual synth with an amazing interface and … [Read more...]

It is a brilliant virtual synth with an amazing interface and some incredibly deep programming options. As the app also features Audiobus and IAA support, it is very easy to integrate it into a wider iOS music production workflow. It is great, therefore, to see Waldorf keeping development … [Read more...]

Nave on sale – Waldorf’s brilliant wavetable synth at a bargain price

Over the last couple of years, I've found myself liking the holiday period more than previously. Nope, not because I like sitting around in a hand-knitted sweater with a Christmas tree pattern on it (eeek!) or all the traditional drinking and eating involved (I'm vegetarian and get a hangover if I drink more than a couple of large glasses of red wine - I know, not very rock 'n' roll but, hey, you can't fight what your body lets you do). In fact, the reason is iOS music related and, in … [Read more...]

Using your iPad for live music performance; a starter kit for the performing iOS keyboard player

As with the starter kit for guitar/bass players, let's take the term 'performing' here in its broadest sense; any keyboard-playing musician who wants to use the iPad (or iPhone or iPod Touch) as a sound source. Again, the 'performance' itself might just personal practice, rehearsal/jamming with band mates or, for the more adventurous, in a live performance in front of paying punters. The first of these is perhaps a less demanding and less difficult ambition while the last requires you to be very … [Read more...]

Music App Review – Nave Wavetable Synth by Waldorf Music

It has to be said that the world of iOS is not short of a synth music app or three. Could there possibly be room for another one? Only if it’s very good – and, thankfully, Nave – the first major iOS music app release by Waldorf – most certainly is. In fact, even after just a few hours spent exploring the app, I’d be happy to suggest it is considerably more than just ‘good’… Nave Basics Nave is a wavetable synth with a sound engine built upon dual (and highly editable) wavetable oscillators, a … [Read more...]
