ScalePlay update – RoGame add further fine-tuning to their educational/generative iOS music app

I reviewed ScalePlay back in August 2016 and was happy to give a warm 'thumbs up' to RoGame and Arthur Roolfs for creating an interesting iOS music app that offers three distinct functions. First, it could be seen as a tool for musical education where, if you happen to play guitar, bass, violin, banjo, cello, double bass, mandolin, piano or viola, ScalePlay can help you develop some personalised scale-based exercises that would, with practice, undoubtedly improve your command of your … [Read more...]

Waay updated – Ten Kettles add ‘teacher mode’ to their iOS musical education app

Like lots of musicians, I'm primarily self taught. While that has included some music theory (mostly enough to get me into trouble but not enough to get me out again) I'm more than aware of (and often embarrassed by) my own limitations. Thankfully, for musicians of any age or musical persuasion, there is now an abundance of tuition resources available that, if you are prepared to invest a little money - and, more importantly, your study time - can hold your hand as you grapple with whatever … [Read more...]

EarMaster update – further tweaks for iOS version of ear training and sight-singing environment

When it comes to apps for musicians, the App Store has more to offer than virtual instruments and effects; it also has a good selection of 'teach yourself' or tutorial apps with a musical theme. One relatively new addition to this category is EarMaster from developers EarMaster ApS and I reviewed the app here on the blog soon after it was released in June 2016. As the title suggests, EarMaster is an app for developing and testing your musical knowledge and, while I say it is ‘new’, the … [Read more...]

Regular iOS music app geeks will be familiar with RoGame through their Qunicy app but Arthur Roolfs and the RoGame development team now have a new iOS music app to tempt us with; ScalePlay. I reviewed ScalePlay a week or so ago. It is an iPad-only app that actually fulfils three different roles. First, it could be seen as a tool for musical education where, if you happen to play guitar, bass, violin, banjo, cello, double bass, mandolin, piano or viola, ScalePlay can help you develop some … [Read more...]
