MidiFire launched – new iOS MIDI utility app from Audeonic Apps

Audeonic Apps - and their main man Nic Grant - are likely to be well known to most long-standing iOS music makers through apps such as MidiBridge and MidiBus, both of which I've reviewed here on the blog in the past. MidiBridge has been with us a long time and, like Audiobus, perhaps was first conceived to overcome some genuine limitations of iOS itself and the way it handled MIDI data. It provided a utility app that allowed you to make - and manipulate/monitor - virtual MIDI connections … [Read more...]

MidiBus updated – MIDI clock utility from Audeonic gets new features

Anyone who has spent some time running multiple MIDI-based music apps until iOS will know that (a) there is a huge amount of fun and creative potential to be experienced and (b) still some workflow issues to be resolved in order to fully capitalise on that potential. One of the key issues is just how well MIDI is handled by these various apps. The solution, of course, is for Apple and every app developer to really get to grips with Core MIDI and to ensure these wonderful music apps we have … [Read more...]

Many thanks also … [Read more...]

MidiBus giveaway – 5 copies of Audeonic’s MIDI utility app up for grabs

I reviewed MidiBus from Audeonic a couple of weeks ago and, while utility apps are perhaps not as exciting to some iOS musicians as a new synth, guitar amp sim or DAW app, they are sometimes the glue that helps us keep these other apps working together so we can get our music made. MidiBus is a classic case of this as it provides a means of sending MIDI Clock to other apps that support it so that you can lock their playback together in an efficient fashion. MIDI under iOS is, it has to be … [Read more...]

MidiBus review – MIDI clock utility from Audeonic

Anyone remember when music technology meant hardware synths, drum machines and MIDI cables? OK, I'm being a bit flippant here because these technologies are still a very valid part of both live and recording contexts. However, if you do remember when this was all there was, then I suspect you also remember the times it didn't work - and nobody could work out why. Of course, we also went through the same head-scratching when we moved over to computers, with MIDI streaming in from these … [Read more...]
