KRFT updated – Studio Amplify add MIDI support their latest iOS music app

I played a bit of 'review catch-up' when I posted a review of KRFT from Studio Amplify a few weeks ago here on the Music App Blog. Studio Amplify have a couple of other iOS musics in their catalogue and that I've looked at previously here on the blog; Jungulator and NOIZ. Both apps were perhaps aimed as much at non-musicians as those with traditional musical skills in that they allowed you to easily create musical ideas but based upon pre-existing musical content such as loops and drum … [Read more...]

Auria Pro SALE – WaveMachine Labs iOS mega-DAW 50% off for limited time

So, summer is coming (well, here in the northern hemisphere at least) and that means lots of businesses (and some iOS music app developers included) are taking things a touch easier for a while as they peek out from their darkened programming suites and catch up on some vitamin D. However, while things might be a bit slower in terms of new apps or app updates, that doesn't mean our favourite iOS music app developers don't have something to tempt us....  and summer sales are a good way to go … [Read more...]

Auria Pro update – WaveMachine Labs tweak their feature-packed iOS DAW/sequencer

In reviewing Auria Pro when it was launched back in December 2015, I was hugely impressed with the ambition shown by WaveMachine Labs. In terms of the specification and feature list, this is perhaps the first iOS DAW/sequencer that crosses over into the capabilities of a fully-fledged desktop recording package....  No, perhaps not the top-end Logic Pro or Cubase Pro or the like, but certainly a feature set that matches the lower/middle ground of the desktop DAW/sequencer marketplace. Oh, and it … [Read more...]

Modstep updated – AppBC bring further tweaks to their iOS MIDI sequencer for iPad

Regular iOS music makers will be familiar with AppBC as the developer behind Studiomux and Modstep apps. I did a full review of Modstep just after it was launched and the feature set is impressive. You can use unlimited MIDI tracks and there is support for multiple MIDI continuous controllers on each MIDI track so you can modulate your sound sources to keep your sounds changing, etc. The first significant update added Audio Units (AU) support which was great to see. It's only a few weeks … [Read more...]

Studiomux update – AppBC’s audio+MIDI over USB app gets further tweaks

I posted a full review of AppBC's Audiomux iOS music app when it was first released. Audiomux allowed you to stream audio between your iOS device and OSX desktop computer using nothing more than the standard USB charging cable that is supplied with your iPad or iPhone. It also complemented AppBC's Midimux app that does the same sort of data transfer for MIDI data. Both apps seems to work very well from the off and, used together, they make integrating your iOS music making technology and your … [Read more...]

Audiobus 3 review – Audiobus team add MIDI and AU support to their classic iOS music utility app

So the wait is over and Audiobus - an iconic app that, without making any noise of its own, is perhaps one of the most important music apps in iOS music technology’s relatively short history – has reached its third iteration. If you are new to iOS-based music making, then you can be forgiven for perhaps not knowing quite what the fuss is about. However, in the days before Audio Units (AU) or Inter-App-Audio (IAA), Audiobus was the first practical solution passing audio data between your … [Read more...]

Modstep giveaway results – five winners of AppBC’s iOS MIDI sequencer for iPad

As I posted a few days ago, AppBC delivered a further update to Modstep - their fully-blown MIDI sequencer with both step sequencing and piano roll editing environments - bringing a number of maintenance-style fixes to what really is a very sophistcated sequencing platform. If your music making revolves around MIDI, rather than audio recording, then Modstep is a powerful option for sequencing on your iPad. I did a full review of Modstep just after it was launched and the feature set is … [Read more...]
