Music IO update – Power Trio add MidiTV support to work with Apple TV

On the back of what seems to be a change of policy at Apple HQ, iOS developers are now able to make use of the standard ‘sync’ USB cable connection between an iOS device and a desktop computer for more than just iTunes File Sharing. For iOS musicians, as we have seen over the last year or so, that has resulted in a number of apps that allow MIDI and audio data to be transferred between iPad (for example) and desktop music production system. One of the obvious contenders in this … [Read more...]

Studiomux update – AppBC’s audio+MIDI over USB app gets further tweaks

I posted a full review of AppBC's Audiomux iOS music app when it was first released. Audiomux allowed you to stream audio between your iOS device and OSX desktop computer using nothing more than the standard USB charging cable that is supplied with your iPad or iPhone. It also complemented AppBC's Midimux app that does the same sort of data transfer for MIDI data. Both apps seems to work very well from the off and, used together, they make integrating your iOS music making technology and your … [Read more...]

midimittr update – further tweaks added to iOS MIDI connectivity app

I’ve reviewed MIDI LE here on the blog a while ago. Launched back in October 2014, this is a free universal app from developer Matthais Frick that originally provided just MIDI over Bluetooth connectivity. The app received a minor update back in April (to version 1.4.3) and also a name change; it is now called midimittr rather than MIDI LE. In February, the app was updated to v.1.4 and, just as with Midimux and Music IO, MIDI over USB was added to the feature list for those working … [Read more...]

Midimux updated – AppBC apply some tweaks to their MIDI over USB app

I've looked at both Midimux and Audiomux from developer AppBC over the last few months. If you happen to also be a desktop-based music technology geek as well as an iOS user, these two apps - and apps such as Music IO - provide a very simple, very cost-effective, means of getting both MIDI and audio data back and forth between your iPad (or iPhone/iPod Touch) and either your OSX or Windows based computer. In terms of easy integration of your iOS music apps into your desktop system, this is a big … [Read more...]
