Gadget 3.0 review – audio recording the highlight in Korg’s mega iOS electronic music production tool update

When Korg first released Gadget in 2014, I think it is fair to say that they pretty much smashed it. The app bought a combination of a novel approach, a format that suited iOS beautifully (in terms of features vs ease of use), a very slick UI and an eclectic mix of included virtual instruments - gadgets - that added up to an instant hit. Gadget was a shoe-in for my own personal 'iOS music app of the year' in 2014. What is also bought almost from day 1, was a promise from Korg to add audio … [Read more...]

Gadget 3.0 launched – Korg’s mega iOS electronic music production tool gets audio recording, OSX version and SALE pricing

I generally don't do too many 'coming soon....' items here on the Music App Blog as I'd rather wait until something is actually available. However, occasionally, something particular catches my attention as it did when Korg announced the 'soon to be released' news about v.3.0 of Gadget.... There were two headlines to the announcement. First,Gadget was going to finally get audio recording support that had been promised almost since it first launched. However, the second was perhaps more … [Read more...]

Gadget news – Korg announce slight delay to Mac Gadget release date

I generally don't do too many 'coming soon....' items here on the Music App Blog as I'd rather wait until something is actually available. However, occasionally, something particular catches my attention.... And, as I posted a few weeks ago, Korg most certainly caught my (and lots of other I suspect) attention with their pre-NAMM announcement that Gadget was coming to OSX. When it comes to 'all-in-one' electronic music production apps available for iOS, Korg's Gadget is one of best options … [Read more...]

However, occasionally, something particular catches my attention.... And as I'm a bit of a Gadget fan, Korg's announcement that their flagship iOS electronic music production system is about to be ported over to OSX/Mac did make me sit up and take notice. When it comes to 'all-in-one' electronic music production apps available for iOS, Korg's Gadget is … [Read more...]

Music IO update – Power Trio add MidiTV support to work with Apple TV

On the back of what seems to be a change of policy at Apple HQ, iOS developers are now able to make use of the standard ‘sync’ USB cable connection between an iOS device and a desktop computer for more than just iTunes File Sharing. For iOS musicians, as we have seen over the last year or so, that has resulted in a number of apps that allow MIDI and audio data to be transferred between iPad (for example) and desktop music production system. One of the obvious contenders in this … [Read more...]

Studiomux update – AppBC’s audio+MIDI over USB app gets further tweaks

I posted a full review of AppBC's Audiomux iOS music app when it was first released. Audiomux allowed you to stream audio between your iOS device and OSX desktop computer using nothing more than the standard USB charging cable that is supplied with your iPad or iPhone. It also complemented AppBC's Midimux app that does the same sort of data transfer for MIDI data. Both apps seems to work very well from the off and, used together, they make integrating your iOS music making technology and your … [Read more...]
