Quantiloop update – stompbox-style looper app from Stephan Marx gets some tweaks

While live performance using some sort of looping device has become much more mainstream over recent years, it is still perhaps a niche activity. As such, it is perhaps a bit surprising that we have quite so many looper-style apps available on the App Store as we do. Daddy of them all is, of course, Loopy HD, but there are other excellent contenders for your money including Loopr, Voice Jam Studio, LooperSonic, LoopTree, Group The Loop and Ostinator. And, recently released - and reviewed … [Read more...]

Loopr update – looper app for iOS from Tristan Zand gets some tweaks

Creating live performances using loops recorded on the fly is quite an art form but you only have to witness a well-honed performance by a beatboxer or solo musician to realise the creative possibilities. Essentially, this involves recording loops as you go, playing back a first loop while you overdub a second, third or fourth (and so on) and then dropping loops in and out of the mix to build up your performance. There is dedicated hardware available for doing this (Boss and Digitech make … [Read more...]

LooperSonic review – streamlined looper recording app from David O’Neill

In a stompbox form, looper pedals are quite popular with guitar players but, despite the guitar being my primary instrument, it was only really when I started exploring iOS music apps that I got into the whole looper thing. I’ve always loved what some artists do with loopers live – KT Tunstall for example – but somehow never found the time to explore for myself. Of course, then I reviewed Loopy HD and that all changed as I began to realise what I’d been missing; loopers can be hugely creative … [Read more...]

LoopTree update – further tweaks for Coding Cod’s colourful looper app

I reviewed LoopTree from Coding Cod back in July here on the Music App Blog and was very impressed with what the app has to offer and the approach to the looper process the app uses. While the launch pricing period is now over - the app is currently priced at UK£9.99 - LoopTree is a universal app that requires iOS7.0 or later. And, at 9MB it will squeeze onto even a tightly packed iOS device. Coding Code have kept the updates coming since the original release and a further update  - v.1.1.6 … [Read more...]
