Mobile POD update – Line 6 tweak their iOS guitar rig sim

If you have any interest in guitar-related technology then Line 6 will be a very familiar brand. I'm most certainly a fan having, over the last 15+ years, used their hardware guitar amp modellers, digital amps, desktop software and, now under iOS, their guitar amp/cab/effect modelling app Mobile POD. While the app itself is 'free', for much of its early life, you had to own a Line 6 Sonic Port (or the newer Sonic Port VX) to use Mobile POD. However, Line 6 did the sensible thing when they … [Read more...]

Sonic Port news – Amplitube compatibility

When I reviewed the Sonic Port from Line 6 back in July, I was impressed by the quality of the hardware and even more impressed by the Mobile POD guitar amp sim app. However, for guitar players, the Sonic Port itself is a good all round choice as a compact audio interface to use with any app on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad regardless of which guitar amp sim app you prefer. I had no problems using the Sonic Port with most audio apps and JamUp Pro and AmpKit worked fine with the unit. … [Read more...]

Line 6 Sonic Port review – guitar audio I/O from the amp modelling giant

In the world of amp modelling, there are probably two names that really made the guitar-playing world sit up and take notice; Roland and Line 6. Roland make brilliant products but, somehow, Line 6 managed to capture the interest and imagination of not just the techie-minded guitar players but also those who – initially at least – might have been sceptical of all the technology. One of their products – the POD – has become something of a guitar amp modelling icon and, in its current incarnation – … [Read more...]

Using your iPad for live music performance; a starter kit for the performing iOS keyboard player

As with the starter kit for guitar/bass players, let's take the term 'performing' here in its broadest sense; any keyboard-playing musician who wants to use the iPad (or iPhone or iPod Touch) as a sound source. Again, the 'performance' itself might just personal practice, rehearsal/jamming with band mates or, for the more adventurous, in a live performance in front of paying punters. The first of these is perhaps a less demanding and less difficult ambition while the last requires you to be very … [Read more...]

Line 6 have announced a new pair of MIDI keyboards that should be of interest to those making music on an iPhone, iPod or iPad - or indeed, if you also use a PC or Mac - as the Mobile Key 25 and Mobile Keys 49 both have connectivity options that allows you to use them with all these platforms. As the names suggest, the two keyboards feature 25 and 49 keys respectively and these are both full size and velocity sensitive. Both also feature pitch and mod wheels plus volume and pan knobs and buttons … [Read more...]
