BeatMaker 2 updated – Intua bring Ableton Link support – and on SALE

Intua's BeatMaker 2 music app that, despite its name, is a full-fledged music production environment and I reviewed the app a couple of years ago here on the blog. Intua have obviously been continuing work on the app - and it has a loyal following - but they are not one of the developers that pump out regular updates. However, the app did receive its first significant update since June when v.2.6.1 arrived on the App Store over the week-end. There are a number of more minor tweaks and … [Read more...]

Beatmaker 2 updated – Intua bring iOS9 and iPad Pro support – and on SALE

Intua's BeatMaker 2 music app that, despite its name, is a full-fledged music production environment and I reviewed the app a couple of years ago here on the blog. Intua have obviously been continuing work on the app - and it has a loyal following - but they are not one of the developers that pump out regular updates. However, the app did receive its first significant update in just over a year when v.2.5.8 arrived on the App Store over the week-end. There are a number of more minor tweaks … [Read more...]

Looptical updated – new features and tweaks for loop-based recording platform from MooCowMusic

There are some iOS music apps that are most certainly 'mini-me' takes on something similar that has been around for a while on the desktop. Auria, for example, provides a fairly conventional - and instantly familiar - take on multitrack audio recording and Cubasis is very obviously a baby brother (or sister) to Steinberg's desktop DAW line. There are others, however, where the developer doesn't follow convention quite so closely and where you get a slightly different take on a task. The … [Read more...]

Master FX review – multi-effects app for iPad from Igor Vasiliev

If you have been a regular visitor to the Music App Blog for a while, you might recall that I’ve reviewed both the MasterRecord and Audio Mastering apps from Igor Vasiliev (iMusicAlbum). I was impressed by both of these apps and for a touch of analog warmth or to add some final ‘mastering’ punch and sparkle to your stereo mix, both apps have plenty to offer the iOS musician who uses their iPad for multi-track recording duties. Igor is now back with a third iOS effect app to tempt you with; … [Read more...]

Intua's BeatMaker 2 music app that, despite its name, is a full-fledged music production environment and not just a drum tool, has received a fairly significant upgrade this week. Tape music app review – ultra simple stereo recorder for iPad from Focusrite

I’ve commented before on the blog about the attraction of the ‘app’ format that encourages developers to create more streamlined software. Software that, essentially, does one thing in a simple, uncluttered fashion but does it well. Apps like Figure, DrumKick, Drums, AUFX:Space or even Audio Mastering all fall into that category. Well, now we have another iOS music app to add to the list; Tape by Focusrite. KISS In fact, I think the Tape music app is probably the trying to win the 2013 ‘Keep … [Read more...]
