AD 480 Reverb review – high-quality iOS reverb effect app from Fiedler Audio

In the world of high quality studio digital reverb effects, Lexicon are something of a legend. Their first digital reverb was released in 1978 but perhaps the most iconic unit – introduced in 1986 – was the 480L. If you were in the market for one on first release then you would have needed a very healthy bank balance and, even now, second-hand units in good working condition can change hands for several thousand US$. Now, I don’t suspect Fiedler Audio are going to claim that their AD 480 … [Read more...]

Turnado update – Sugar Bytes add IAA support to creative effects processor

Sugar Bytes have updated the excellent Turnado iOS audio effects apps to v.1.2. While the app has featured Audiobus support for some time and Sugar Bytes also introduced a very useful 'landscape' mode for the app in the v.1.1 update that meant it could be used in both landscape and portrait modes, one features that hasn't been included up until now was inter-app audio (IAA) support. Thankfully, the release of v.1.2 a few days ago bring IAA support as the headline new feature. Having had a … [Read more...]

LiveFX review – creative multi-effects app from Elephantcandy

We iOS musicians have been lucky enough to see a whole range of different audio effect apps released over the last few months. I’ve reviewed some of the best of these here on the blog and, as on the desktop, audio processing tools come in a number of varieties ranging from the corrective to the more creative. Towards the more corrective end of the spectrum might be noise gates, compressors, EQ or pitch correctors, while the more creative tools might go from standard effects such as delay or … [Read more...]

Stereo Designer review – multi-purpose stereo shaping tool from Holderness Media

For dedicated (or should that be addicted) iOS music app collectors, Christopher Rice of Holderness Media will be a familiar figure. Chris is the brains behind the excellent Echo Pad and Swoopster iOS effects apps, both of which I’ve reviewed previously on the Music App Blog website. Chris is now back with a third effect app to add to his portfolio – Stereo Designer – and like his earlier apps, this is an app dedicated to a particular kind of audio effect. In this case, and as suggested by … [Read more...]

AUFX:PeakQ update – Jonatan Liljedahl adds new features

If you are a bit of an iPad music old-hand, then Jonatan Liljedahl's AUFX series of iOS effects apps will need no introduction. I’ve reviewed all the AUFX series apps - AUFX:Space (a reverb effect), AUFX:Dub (a delay effect)  and AUFX:PeakQ (a four-band EQ) - previously on the blog and, with Audiobus and inter-app audio (IAA) support as standard, they all come highly recommended. Jonatan has used released an update to the third app in the series; AUFX:PeakQ (UK£2.49). The app already provided … [Read more...]

Level.24 review – compressor, limiter and EQ effects from Elephantcandy

The advent of Audiobus and, more recently, inter-app audio (IAA) has made the concept of stand-alone iOS audio effects apps a much more viable proposition all round and this looks like it will be given fresh impetus by the soon-to-be-released Audiobus 2. We have, therefore, seen a modest flurry of dedicated iOS effects apps such as AUFX:Space (and the other AUFX series apps), Master FX, AudioReverb, EchoPad and Turnado to name just a few. One developer in this area that slipped under my … [Read more...]

AUFX:PeakQ review – Jonatan Liljedahl back with the third AUFX series app

If you are a bit of an iPad music old-hand (and, in iOS terms, that probably means anyone who has been with us more that a few months), then Jonatan Liljedahl will need no introduction. Jonatan is the person behind the excellent AUFX series of iOS audio effects apps. I’ve reviewed both AUFX:Space (a reverb effect) and AUFX:Dub (a delay effect) previously on the blog and, with Audiobus and inter-app audio (IAA) support as standard, both come highly recommended. Jonatan is now back with the … [Read more...]
