Tiger-lily Tremolo update – the ‘flora’ project iOS music app gets some fixes

I've no idea where the whole 'flora' theme comes from for developers Timothy Barraclough and Paul Mathews but there series of stripped-down, stompbox ethic, iOS audio effects apps are all very good indeed. I've reviewed all the apps in the series  - Cactus Chorus, Phlox Phaser, Saffron Saturator, Buttercup Bitcrush, Dahlia Delay and Tiger-lily Tremolo - previously here on the blog and, at UK£0.79 each, they are about as an obvious casual purchase as you are likely to find. The last of these - … [Read more...]

Dahlia Delay update – streamlined iOS delay app gets its first update

I've reviewed a number of new iOS music apps from developers Timothy Barraclough and Paul Mathews over the last few weeks ago on the blog. Cactus Chorus and Phlox Phaser were followed up with the equally floral themed Buttercup Bitcrush soon afterwards. There is also Saffron Saturator and Dahlia Delay in the same series. The apps names give a clear indication of the effects types but don't be put off by the flora theme or the very streamlined-looking user interface; these are all apps that … [Read more...]

Saffron Saturator review – the fifth ‘flora’ project iOS music app hits the App Store

As I mentioned at the end of my review of Dahlia Delay by developers Timothy Barraclough and Paul Mathews just a week or so ago, the pair had a further iOS audio effects app in the pipeline; Saffron Saturator. No, I've no idea what the whole floral theme is about either but Saffron Saturator hit the App Store yesterday. It follows a similar format to all the other apps in the series - Cactus Chorus, Phlox Phaser, Buttercup Bitcrush and Dahlia Delay. As the names might suggest, the first four … [Read more...]

Dahlia Delay review – the ‘flora’ project adds a new app to its streamlined iOS audio effects series

I reviewed two new iOS audio effects apps from developers Timothy Barraclough and Paul Mathews a few weeks ago on the blog - Cactus Chorus and Phlox Phaser - and the team followed up with the equally floral themed Buttercup Bitcrush soon afterwards. Surprise, surprise, these are chorus, phaser and bit reduction effects respectively. All three apps are universal, require iOS7.0 or later and are supplied with Audiobus and IAA support... and, for the budget conscious, all are currently priced at … [Read more...]

Buttercup Bitcrush review – Timothy Barraclough adds a new app to his streamlined audio effects series

I reviewed two new iOS audio effects apps from developer Timothy Barraclough a week or so ago on the blog. Cactus Chorus and Phlox Phaser are - surprise, surprise - chorus and phaser effects respectively and both apps are universal and require iOS7.0 or later. Both are also supplied with Audiobus and IAA support... and, for the budget conscious, both are currently priced at UK£0.79....  that's probably less than the price of your favourite chocolate snack bar. Tim is obviously not a chap … [Read more...]

Cactus Chorus and Phlox Phaser review – two new iOS audio effects app without the fuss

Bells and whistles are all very well in your software but, when a developer tries to add every conceivable feature into an application, things can get just too complicated. You end up with a maze of choices, 90% of which you might never use. That's not a criticism anyone is going to level at two new iOS audio effects apps from developer Timothy Barraclough. Both launched in the last couple of weeks, Cactus Chorus and Phlox Phaser are - surprise, surprise - chorus and phaser effects … [Read more...]

AltiSpace review – new convolution reverb app from Igor Vasiliev

If you have an iOS-based recording habit of any long-standing then you will probably be very familiar with the iOS music apps developed by Igor Vasiliev under his iMusicAlbum label. I’ve reviewed a number of these apps in the past – Audio Mastering, Master FX and Master Record – and they all are well worth owning. Audio Mastering gave us the first stand-alone app for, well…  audio mastering since you ask. It does a great job at a great price and can achieve some pretty remarkable results in … [Read more...]
