FunkBox updated – Synthetic Bits bring their classic iOS drum machine up to date

I must admit to a bit of a soft spot for FunkBox. It was one of the first drum machine apps I explored on my iPhone (and then iPad) and I rather like the disco-friendly, retro styling; this definitely has a classic drum machine vibe. It also sounds the part with a solid selection of classic drum sounds available in a good number of preset kits. The pattern-based editing is simple yet flexible and there are some nice performance options that make pattern creation a pretty painless affair. It … [Read more...]

FunkBox updated – Synthetic Bits add iOS8 support and new features

And they keep coming....  just a couple of days after posted about the update to Fingerlab's excellent DM1 drum machine app, today we get the v.3.5 update to another iOS drum machine classic; FunkBox. FunkBox giveaway – five copies of virtual drum machine app from Synthetic Bits to give away

One of my favourite virtual drum box apps - FunkBox - got its first significant update in quite a while earlier this week. FunkBox was always a very cool, fun, and easy-to-use virtual drum machine. It has a very useable collection of classic drum machine kits and good pattern editing and performance features (the 'roll' button, for example). With this update, Synthetic Bits have bought FunkBox right up-to-date in terms of iOS music production technology by adding support for both IAA and … [Read more...]

FunkBox updated – Synthetic Bits add significant new features to their excellent drum machine app

It was over a year ago when I first reviewed FunkBox by Synthetic Bits (or, to give the app its full title 'FunkBox Drum Machine') and, while I also use DM1 when I need a virtual drum machine for a musical idea, I've always enjoyed FunkBox, with its retro styling and easy-to-use interface. Oh, and it sounds pretty good too so, if you haven't checked out the original review, do take a look. While the app had a couple of updates just after I did my original review, this week has seen the first … [Read more...]

Funkbox by Synthetic Bits – music app review

My own iPad is stuffed full of some brilliant music apps. I’ve got a number of excellent synth-based apps, at least four guitar amp sims that I’m happy to employ, a selection of very useable (but quite different) DAWs and a range of utility-type apps (including Audiobus and MIDI Bridge), all of which, with a little care and attention, can be combined into a suitable music-making workflow. In terms of it being a ‘complete’ music production system then I know that, at present, it can’t compete … [Read more...]
