Groovebox updated – all-in-one EDM music app gets song building features

Novation spin off Amify have a good crop of iOS music apps including the excellent Blocs Wave, Launchpad and, added more recently, Groovebox. The latter has been around for just a few months and provides an EDM music production platform that combines a drum machine and synth engines into an all-in-one music production environment. It is also a free download - so you can try before you buy - and with an IAP-based model for unlocking more advanced features if you think the app is for you once you … [Read more...]

Groovebox launched – new all-in-one EDM music app from team behind Launchpad and Blocs Wave

Since launched, Novation's Blocs Wave has moved forward at quite a pace. The app itself, like Novation's Launchpad, is also a loop and sample-based music creation tool...   but with some feature differences that make it distinct from the LaunchPad approach. The team behind Blocs Wave - a Novation-based team that went under the banner of Blocs - rapidly developed the Blocs Wave concept further and a number of updates have added a whole host of new features, Ableton Link support, new export … [Read more...]

Caustic update – Single Cell Software’s electronic music production app gets some new features

If you like the 'all-in-one' approach to electronic music production, for my money, three iOS apps would be top of my list of contenders; NanoStudio (the original under iOS), Gadget (ultra slick interface) and Caustic (almost an early version of Reason 'lite' designed for iOS). I've reviewed all three of these apps here on the blog in the past and they all have their particular set of strengths and weaknesses. Yes, there are others (including a particular favourite of mine, the … [Read more...]

Beatwave update – Collect3’s iOS music app gets updated

I did a 'catch up' review of Collet3's rather nice iOS music app Beatwave some time ago here on the Music App Blog. The app is an interesting take on the pattern-based sequencer meets the generative music app meets the all-in-one music composition tool. The minimalist design is rather pleasing on the eye and, once you have found your way around the various options, it is generally very easy to use. An minor update to Beatwave appeared on the App Store yesterday taking the app to v.2.6.1. This … [Read more...]

Beatwave update – Collect3’s iOS music app gets some further tweaks

Just a few days ago, I played a bit of 'catch up' and reviewed Collet3's rather nice iOS music app Beatwave. The app is an interesting take on the pattern-based sequencer meets the generative music app meets the all-in-one music composition tool. The minimalist design is rather pleasing on the eye and, once you have found your way around the various options, it is generally very easy to use. An update to Beatwave appeared on the App Store this morning taking the app to v.2.5.1. Aside from the … [Read more...]

Beatwave review – generative music meets pattern-based sequencer meets all-in-one music composition app from Collect3

Over the last few months I posted a number of ‘round up’ articles here on the blog each of which has taken a look at a particular group of iOS music apps and identified some of my own personal favourite apps within that group. Two of these articles have looked at generative music apps and all-in-one electronic music production apps and there are some brilliant apps within both of these categories. There are also a few apps that perhaps fall into both and one further contender – courtesy of a … [Read more...]
