iSymphonic Orchestra update – sample-based orchestral virtual instrument app reaches v.2.0

I did a full review of iSymphonic Orchestra about a week after it was released and, with the stream of updates since then, and these have added new features, new sounds (included in the base price of the app) and a number of further sound options via IAP, it is now an impressive package. OK, keeping it fully-stocked is going to (a) take up a lot of your iOS device's storage space and (b) take a sizeable chunk out of your bank balance (those IAPs would soon add up) but, sonically, for those … [Read more...]

Colossus Piano updated – Crudebyte bring AU support to their detailed iOS piano instrument

Crudebyte’s have a number of sample-based iOS music apps now available including their flagship iSymphonic Orchestra and Oriental Strings, both of which have been updated over recent weeks to include support for the AUv3 plugin format. As I reported a few weeks ago, their latest app is Colossus Piano. As the name might suggest, Colossus Piano is big...  and by that, I mean big is terms of the sample library (and, therefore, storage space required). The base app is, itself, free and comes in … [Read more...]

Oriental Strings updated – AU support introduced to Crudebyte’s specialist string instrument

Crudebyte caused quite a stir back in August when their iSymphonic Orchestra app was launched. The app's blurb promised a lot and, while the sounds in the initial release were most certainly very impressive, it perhaps wasn't until the first update for the app appeared in November, that it perhaps started to deliver on the obvious potential of the sample playback engine. Crudebyte have obviously put some considerable work into the sample playback engine that iSymphonic Orchestra is built upon … [Read more...]

Heavy Brass update – Crudebyte add AU support to their brass section is an iOS music app

Crudebyte have a number of orchestral iOS music apps now available including their flagship iSymphonic Orchestra which was updated a couple of months or so ago to include support for the AUv3 plugin format (along with a further update to refine that AU support). One of their other apps is Heavy Brass, which I reviewed this time last year when it was first released. Containing a collection of quite detailed, sample-based, brass instruments and sections, this is undoubtedly a bit of a niche app … [Read more...]

iSymphonic Orchestra update – new sounds and AU refinements for sample-based orchestral virtual instrument app

I did a full review of iSymphonic Orchestra about a week after it was released and, while I was impressed by the sound quality, I wasn't quite so convinced about the overall package. However, the app has had a number of updates since then and these have added new features, new sounds (included in the base price of the app) and a number of further sound options via IAP. It is now a much better proposition and, for orchestral sounds, is probably the best choice currently available under iOS … [Read more...]

Colossus Piano launched – Crudebyte take iOS piano sampling to desktop levels

Crudebyte’s have a number of sample-based iOS music apps now available including their flagship iSymphonic Orchestra which was update just a few weeks or so ago to include support for the AUv3 plugin format. Amongst their various apps, the company already have a dedicated sample-based piano app - CMP Piano - which has proved very popular with some iOS musicians. However, this is an area with some competition from the likes of IK Multimedia's iGrand and the piano sounds within Korg's Module. … [Read more...]
