Guitar Toolkit updated – tweaks for Agile Partners’ Swiss Army knife app for guitar players

As a confirmed iOS music app addict, I have far too many music apps installed on my iPhone and iPad. They are all great and there are occasions when each of them might get called into service. However, there are a few apps that I can pretty much guarantee using every day. For me, Cubasis is one...  but another is Agile Partners' Guitar Toolkit. Guitar Toolkit was one of the first iOS music apps I reviewed on the website back in April 2012. It might not be the most sexy of the apps I own but, … [Read more...]

Yousician updated – further tweaks for iOS instrument tuition programme from Yousician Ltd

While it started out as a guitar-only tuition programme aimed at beginners but with something to offer the shredder level, in an update at the start of November, Yousician also added a similar piano tuition option to its feature set. Further updates have subsequently added both ukulele and bass to the tuition line-up....  (I'm crossing my fingers for vocals next :-) ) I originally reviewed the app a few months ago here on blog and was impressed with the combination of video instruction and … [Read more...]

Bottom end balance – free mixing video guides from iZotope

If you happen to run a desktop music production system alongside your mobile system, the odds are you will have heard of iZotope....  The company are the developers behind Ozone which is perhaps the best-selling 'all-in-one' mastering plugin available for Windows/OSX. I've used it myself for a a number of years and it is incredibly powerful. Under iOS, perhaps the equivalent functions are provided by Positive Grid's Final Touch and Igor Vasiliev's Audio Mastering.... iZotope also make other … [Read more...]

iFretless updates – preset-saving features added to Blue Mangoo’s virtual instruments

If you are not familiar with the iFretless series of apps... well... er...  you probably should be. iFretless Bass is something of an iOS music app classic while iFretless Sax, iFretless Guitar and iFretless Brass take the key elements of the same excellent touchscreen performance interface and provide some of the most playable and expressive sample-based virtual instruments that are currently available for iOS. All of the apps include MIDI, IAA and Audiobus support, are universal and will … [Read more...]

iFretless updates – Bass and Sax apps join Guitar with iOS8 support

As I posted a couple of days ago, Blue Mangoo have just updated their excellent iFretless Guitar virtual instrument app to provide support for iOS8 and the lastest Audiobus SDK. As expected, hot on the heels of the Guitar app comes similar iOS8 compatibility updates for the other iFretless apps - iFretless Bass and iFretless Sax - both of which are now available for download via the App Store. Bass - the original app in this series - is still one of the best virtual instruments for bass … [Read more...]

iFretless Bass music app review – virtual bass instrument from Blue Mango

When it comes to iOS music apps, some musicians do better than others. If you are a keyboard player, guitar player, recording fan or a drummer, then you are generally pretty well catered for. Others, perhaps, don’t have it quite so good. However, if you are a bass player, iFretless Bass - Blue Mango’s virtual bass instrument app – is an obvious candidate to consider. iFretless Bass has been around for some time. The first release appeared in March 2012, with v.2 posted in October 2012. Blue … [Read more...]

Music app review – Guitar Toolkit

If you are a guitar-playing iPhone, iPod or iPad user, then you really should check out the GuitarToolkit music app from Agile Partners Technologies. Agile are the folks behind the excellent AmpKit+ guitar amp simulation app that is designed to partner Peavey’s AmpKit Link guitar interface hardware for the iDevice range. Guitar Toolkit is not an alternative amp/effects simulator (although I’ll come back to this point a little later) but rather a collection of useful guitar-orientated tools that … [Read more...]
