Ripplemaker review – Bram Bos adds AU modular iOS synth to his app catalogue

As I mentioned when reviewing Troublemaker from Bram Bos in early January, that app is already a favourite for inclusion in my ‘top 10 iOS music apps of 2017’ when I get to mull over that annual thought process in a few months time. Troublemaker is an absolute triumph on a number of levels. The control set is deep enough to coax a variety of sounds from the synth engine but without putting off the less well qualified synth dabblers, the pattern sequencer is genius in design, the app runs as an … [Read more...]

Ripplemaker launched – Bram Bos adds AU modular iOS synth to his app catalogue

As I mentioned early today, one of my favourite 'new for 2017' iOS music apps - Troublemaker - received an update today. No sooner had I pressed 'publish' on that news item than an email appeared in my inbox from developer Bram Bos with details of another app that is released today.....  Ripplemaker hit the App Store this morning. Ripplemaker is described as a 'West Coast Flavoured Modular Synth' and, if you are familiar with Troublemaker then there are plenty of elements in the new app that … [Read more...]

Troublemaker updated – Bram Bos adds Audiobus 3 support to his 303 inspired AU iOS synth

As I mentioned back in January when doing a full review, Bram Bos latest iOS music app is Troublemaker and, as the name suggests, this is going to be an app with a certain amount of attitude. It doesn't disappoint and it has already gained a very enthusiastic audience....  I think it's a shoe-in for my own 'top 10 iOS music apps of 2017' list when the time rolls around.... Anyway, if you have not already, do read the full Troublemaker review for the details...  but the app has already had a … [Read more...]

Audiobus 3 updated – iconic iOS music app gets some fine-tuning

I posted a full review of Audiobus 3 when it was released at the bering of April. As promised by the Audiobus team, the new version has three new headline features. First, the app provides MIDI routing between compatible apps, making it easier to configure your overall arrangement of apps within a specific Audiobus project. Second, Audiobus will now support Audio Unit plugins as well as Audiobus and IAA compatible apps. This is obviously an important development given that AU is now making … [Read more...]

Elastic Drums updated – Oliver Greschke’s brilliant iOS drum app gets further Audiobus tweaks

If you are a regular visitor to the Music App Blog you will be well be familiar with Elastic Drums from developer Oliver Greschke and Mouse On Mars. As I mentioned back in February, the app recently underwent a significant update to v.2.0.  Having added support for using drum samples (via an IAP) in v.1.9, v.2.0 added Ableton Live Set Export features, re-vamped the sample import process and made further sample-based kits available via the in-app store. Oliver is, however, one of the more … [Read more...]

MiMix update – TTrGames tweak their Audiobus mixer utility app for Audiobus 3

I have to admit that, on first release, MiMix, from developer TTrGames, passed me by. However, when v.2.0 arrived on the App Store , I did play ‘catch up’ and gave the app a full review. MiMix has a tag line of ‘Mixer for Audiobus’ and this pretty much sums up its key function. Given that Audiobus 3 has just launched - and one of the key new features is the addition of basic mixing facilities directly within Audiobus - you might be forgiven for thinking MiMix might not have such an important … [Read more...]

Audiobus 3 review – Audiobus team add MIDI and AU support to their classic iOS music utility app

So the wait is over and Audiobus - an iconic app that, without making any noise of its own, is perhaps one of the most important music apps in iOS music technology’s relatively short history – has reached its third iteration. If you are new to iOS-based music making, then you can be forgiven for perhaps not knowing quite what the fuss is about. However, in the days before Audio Units (AU) or Inter-App-Audio (IAA), Audiobus was the first practical solution passing audio data between your … [Read more...]

Apps update for Audiobus 3 – flurry of iOS music app updates arrive

As I posted yesterday, Audiobus 3 is now with us. We had, of course, known is was coming for a little while and a number of popular iOs music apps had already received updates over the last week weeks stating that they were 'Audiobus 3 ready'. These included Cubasis, Chordion, Triqtraq, AC Sabre and Fugue Machine, for example. And, while most of my favourite iOS music apps that I've had a chance to try with Audiobus 3 so far seem to work without problems, we are obviously going to see a lot of … [Read more...]

As I've posted recently, long-standing iOS music makes have been waiting with some anticipation for the the arrival of Audiobus 3. Well, the wait is now over; Audiobus 3 arrived on the App Store this morning. As promised by the Audiobus team, the new version has three new headline features. First, the app provides MIDI routing between compatible apps, making it easier to configure your overall arrangement of apps within a specific Audiobus project. Second, Audiobus will now support … [Read more...]
