Midiflow Adapter launched – new Audiobus 3 MIDI compatibility utility app from Johannes Doerr

I posted a full review of Audiobus 3 just after it launched. One of the key new features of Audiobus 3 is MIDI routing; as with the audio routing options that Audiobus originally made its name with, the new version also allows you to route MIDI data between sources and destinations. This is a cool new feature and I'm sure will help a lot of iOS musicians to make a little bit more sense of these 'virtual' MIDI connections. As I also mentioned in a post, a suite of 8 MIDI utility apps from … [Read more...]

Multitrack DAW update – refinements for compact iOS DAW from Harmonicdog

Multitrack DAW by Harmonicdog is a popular recording choice with lots of iOS musicians. While it is an audio-only recording environment, it does offer two advantages that appeal to users. First, Multitrack DAW is simple to use (the feature set is streamlined so you can focus on the recording process itself and not get distracted). Second, it’s a universal app that, because of its streamlined feature set (and unlike Cubasis and Auria Pro, which are only available for iPad), actually runs … [Read more...]

ToneStack updated – Yonac bring Audiobus 3 support to their iOS guitar amp sim

Developer Yonac have gained a dedicated following with their ToneStack guitar amp sim app since it first hit the iTunes App Store back in 2014. It sounds very good indeed - up there with the best of the guitar amp sim apps such as BIAS FX, AmpliTube or Mobile POD - that iOS currently has to offer. It launched with a solid set of virtual equipment, a bunch of excellent IAPs, Audiobus and IAA support and, as a universal app, this is an iOS music app that lots of iPad or iPhone wielding guitar … [Read more...]

Audiobus 3 review – Audiobus team add MIDI and AU support to their classic iOS music utility app

So the wait is over and Audiobus - an iconic app that, without making any noise of its own, is perhaps one of the most important music apps in iOS music technology’s relatively short history – has reached its third iteration. If you are new to iOS-based music making, then you can be forgiven for perhaps not knowing quite what the fuss is about. However, in the days before Audio Units (AU) or Inter-App-Audio (IAA), Audiobus was the first practical solution passing audio data between your … [Read more...]

Apps update for Audiobus 3 – flurry of iOS music app updates arrive

As I posted yesterday, Audiobus 3 is now with us. We had, of course, known is was coming for a little while and a number of popular iOs music apps had already received updates over the last week weeks stating that they were 'Audiobus 3 ready'. These included Cubasis, Chordion, Triqtraq, AC Sabre and Fugue Machine, for example. And, while most of my favourite iOS music apps that I've had a chance to try with Audiobus 3 so far seem to work without problems, we are obviously going to see a lot of … [Read more...]

Midiflow apps launch – 8 new MIDI utility apps from Johannes Doerr designed for Audiobus 3

As I posted earlier today, Audiobus 3 has now launched on the App Store. Also launched today, however, is a suite of 8 MIDI utility … [Read more...]

Audiobus 3 news – launch date and features outline announced for cornerstone iOS music app

If you are interested in the possibility of making music on an iOS device, over the last few years, Audiobus - despite not making any sound of its own - has been about as 'must have' an app as it is possible to get. This is the utility app that made the whole process involved with getting various other music apps (synths, guitar amp sims, audio effects, DAWs, etc.) working together into a coherent workflow just so much easier...  In short, when iOS music making was just a bunch of brilliant, but … [Read more...]

Chordion update – Olympia Noise Co’s MIDI performance app gets some tweaks including Audiobus 3 support

As most regular Music App Blog readers will be aware, my keyboard skills are not going to win me any prizes. As a consequence, apps like Chordion - by Olympia Noise Co - appeal to me as they provide a viable alternative for touchscreen MIDI performances but without the confines of a traditional (virtual) keyboard. There are a good few apps that fall into this category; Synthecaster, SoundPrism Pro, ChordPolyPad and Gestrument, for example. However, Chordion has always been a personal … [Read more...]
