Flection update – compatibility update for elephantcandy’s waveshaper audio effect app for iOS

Like LiveFX, which also received an update today, elephantcandy's Flection - which I reviewed on the Music App Blog a few months ago -  definitely falls more in the ‘creative’ than the ‘corrective’ category of iOS audio effects apps. Elephantcandy describe Flection as a waveshaper effect. Flection’s primary function is to allow you to manipulate the amplitude of the waveform. It does this by allowing you to apply any one of some 30+ ‘functions’. Essentially, these are mathematical functions … [Read more...]

Sparkle update – experimental spectral processing app from the apeSoft team gets new features

We are beginning to build up quite a collection of creative audio processing tools under iOS and I’ve reviewed a number of apeSoft’s (and, indeed, Amazing Noises; the two development teams are linked) apps in the past, including apeFilter, Reverb FDN and Limiter. They always brings something with a touch of ‘left-field’ to the table. ApeSoft's Sparkle – or, to give it its full title, Sparkle Advanced Cross-Synthesis – is made from the same kind of mould and I reviewed the app when it was … [Read more...]

Flection giveaway results – 5 winners of waveshaper audio effect app from elephantcandy

Aside from synth apps, the other category of music apps that seems to be particularly well served on the iTunes App Store is that of the audio effect app. One fairly recent possibility is this category is Flection from developer elephantcandy and I reviewed the app last week on the blog. If you have hung around these pages for any length of time then you will be familiar with some of elephantcandy’s other iOS music apps (for example, I’ve reviewed both Level.24 and UltraPhaser). Flection is … [Read more...]

Flection giveaway – 5 copies of waveshaper audio effect app from elephantcandy up for grabs

Aside from synth apps, the other category of music apps that seems to be particularly well served on the iTunes App Store is that of the audio effect app. One fairly recent possibility is this category is Flection from developer elephantcandy and I reviewed the app earlier this week on the blog. If you have hung around these pages for any length of time then you will be familiar with some of elephantcandy’s other iOS music apps (for example, I’ve reviewed both Level.24 and UltraPhaser). … [Read more...]

Flection review – waveshaper audio effect app for iOS from elephantcandy

Aside from synth apps, the other category of music apps that seems to be particularly well served on the iTunes App Store is that of the audio effect app. These fall into two broad sub-categories themselves and, a few months ago, I did a couple of roundup articles looking at what was available in terms of more conventional audio effects/processors and more creative audio effects/processors. Of course, new apps are appearing all the time and there are already a few very good candidates I could … [Read more...]

Sparkle review – experimental spectral processing app from the apeSoft team

We are beginning to build up quite a collection of creative audio processing tools under iOS and these had had a couple of notable additions in recent weeks including the brilliant Flux: FX. Another recent release that falls into this ‘creative’ category is apeSoft’s Sparkle. I’ve reviewed a number of apeSoft’s (and, indeed, Amazing Noises; the two development teams are linked) apps in the past, including apeFilter, Reverb FDN and Limiter, and they always brings something with a touch of … [Read more...]

WretchUp review – experimental iOS audio effect app from Mouse On Mars

There are all sorts of audio effects available to the musician, sound designer or audio editor and, while there are no hard and fast rules here, broadly speaking you can place the application of audio effects into two classes; corrective (those that manage a problem to improve the overall sound) and creative (those that take a sound and transform it into something bigger, better and more interesting than it was to start with). Specific effects might easily be able to do both corrective and … [Read more...]

Vandelay review – Klevgränd Produktion bring a touch of echo magic to iOS

If you have been paying attention (wake up at the back!) over recent months then you will have seen the review of the rather minimalist – but also rather wonderful – SquashIt from Klevgränd Produktion. SquashIt is an audio effect app that provides a three-band distortion effect and, what it lacks in masses of controls, it makes up for is sound and ease of use. Indeed, at a current price of UK£1.99, it easily qualifies as a bargain and, as Audiobus support has been added to the app since I did … [Read more...]

Deregulator review – left-field echo/delay/reverb effect from CKEK software

Given that making music under iOS is still a little bit of an experimental process, by its very nature, it does attract a healthy cohort of somewhat experimental musicians. Yes, if you want to do straight-ahead singer-songwriter stuff on an iPad, you most certainly can. However, if you also want to create something just that bit more left-field, then there are some rather good iOS music apps that can inspire your experimental streak. I’ve looked at a number of iOS audio effects apps here on … [Read more...]
