Limiter and Reverb FDN updated – Amazing Noises add AU support to their effects apps

I've reviewed a number of iOS music apps from Amazing Noises here on the Music App Blog including Reverb FDN, Dedalus, DubFilter and Limiter. All of these apps can do 'subtle and/or conventional' if you want them to but you get the impression that that is not really the primary intention - Amazing Noises seem to like their app to be pushed a bit harder than that :-) Two of these - Limiter and Reverb FDN - were updated yesterday with an near identical set of changes. Both have had a few fixes … [Read more...]

Poison-202 update – excellent iOS synth gets another update – and a desktop version is on the way

I reviewed Poison-202 from JimAudio soon after it was released. Poison-202 is a vintage-style iOS synth, inspired by some of the classic synths from the 80s and 90s, paying homage to the synth sounds found on tracks from The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Kraftwerk and Daft Punk amongst others. The app arrived with universal support, IAA and MIDI included (although the latter was perhaps not as fully-featured as on some iOS synth apps) and AU support was added in v.1.1 which appeared in … [Read more...]

Modstep giveaway – five copies of AppBC’s iOS MIDI sequencer for iPad to be won

As I posted yesterday, AppBC delivered a further update to Modstep - their fully-blown MIDI sequencer with both step sequencing and piano roll editing environments - bringing a number of maintenance-style fixes to what really is a very sophistcated sequencing platform. If your music making revolves around MIDI, rather than audio recording, then Modstep is a powerful option for sequencing on your iPad. I did a full review of Modstep just after it was launched and the feature set is impressive. … [Read more...]

iDensity update – apeSoft’s multi-stream granulation app gets AU fine-tuning

As I posted just a few days ago, apeSoft have updated their very left-of-centre sound creation app iDensity to make it available as an AUv.3 plugin within a suitable AU host app (and there are now a good number of these). Developer apeSoft will be familiar to many iOS musicians through their various iOS music apps and their obvious close collaboration with Amazing Noises and their various iOS music apps. Between these two developer names, I’ve reviewed apps such as apeFilter, Sparkle, … [Read more...]

Modstep updated – AppBC bring further tweaks to their iOS MIDI sequencer for iPad

Regular iOS music makers will be familiar with AppBC as the developer behind Studiomux and Modstep apps. The latter includes some of the Studiomux technology but also offers a fully-blown MIDI sequencer with both step sequencing and piano roll editing environments. If your music making revolves around MIDI, rather than audio recording, then Modstep is a powerful option for sequencing on your iPad. I did a full review of Modstep just after it was launched and the feature set is impressive. You … [Read more...]

ReSlice updated – VirSyn continue to develop the feature set of their iOS audio slicer instrument

VirSyn are one of the software developers that have fully embraced the iOS platform. They have gradually developed a very impressive catalogue of iOS music apps many or which - Tera Synth, microTERA, Harmony Voice, Addictive Synth, Tap Delay, Emo Chorus, Posiedon Synth, Voxsyn, Arpeggist and AudioEffx, for example - I've reviewed here previously on the Music App Blog. However, I think they hit the ball out the park with their latest offering - ReSlice - and I was hugely impressed with the app … [Read more...]

Troublemaker updated – Bram Bos tweaks his 303 inspired AU-ready iOS synth app

As I mentioned back in January when doing a full review, Bram Bos latest iOS music app is Troublemaker and, as the name suggests, this is going to be an app with a certain amount of attitude. It doesn't disappoint and it has already gained a very enthusiastic audience....  and, if you were lucky enough to pick up a copy at half price in the flash sale last week then you got a real bargain :-) Anyway, if you have not already, do read the full Troublemaker review for the details...  but the app … [Read more...]

Phlox Phaser update – AUv.3 support added to compact iOS phaser effect app

Bells and whistles are all very well in your software but, when a developer tries to add every conceivable feature into an application, things can get just too complicated. You end up with a maze of choices, 90% of which you might never use. That's not a criticism anyone is going to level at the iOS audio effects apps from developers Timothy Barraclough and Paul Mathews. I've looked at a number of these 'floral series' apps here on the blog - Phlox Phaser, Dahlia Delay, Tiger-lily Tremolo, … [Read more...]

Troublemaker ON SALE – Bram Bos’ 303 inspired AU iOS synth app 50% off

As I mentioned back in January when doing a full review, Bram Bos' latest iOS music app -  Troublemaker – is something just a bit special. As the name suggests, this is an app with a certain amount of attitude. It doesn't disappoint and I think this is already a strong contender for my 'top 10 iOS music apps of 2017' selection (and, if it's not, then we are in for a heck of a year!). Bram is building an impressive collection of iOS music apps. I reviewed his Phasemaker iOS synth app here on … [Read more...]
