Ruismaker giveaway results – two winners of both of Bram Bos’ iOS AUi plugin drum machines

As I posted a couple of days ago, Bram Bos has just updated both his Ruismaker iOS drum machine apps to include a very clever (and very creative) Euclidean pattern sequencer. Alongside,  Phasemaker, Troublemaker and Ripplemaker synth apps , Bram has, over the last 12 months or so, built an impressive catalogue of iOS music apps. All five include AU plugin support and, when used stand-alone, all five now offer excellent phrase-based pattern sequencing. Given the potential that Audio Units … [Read more...]

Phosphor 2 review – does Audio Damage’s first iOS synth hit the sweet spot?

Audio Damage appear to be on a mission when it comes to iOS music apps at present. I've reviewed Rough Rider 2, Grind Distortion, Eos 2, Dubstation 2, QuatroMod, Pumphouse and Replicant 2 all within the last couple of months. However, as I reported a few weeks ago, Audio Damage have also added a synth app to their catalogue; Phosphor 2. The effects apps have been universally well received....  so is Phosphor 2 keep up the high standard? And where does it sit within the very crowded iOS synth … [Read more...]

NFM update – new iOS FM synth app with AU support gets some tweaks

I posted a full review of NFM - a well=featured FM-based synth with AU support by developer Nikolozi Meladze - recently on the Music App Blog. Regular iOS music makers will also recall the review of Niko's NS1 synth back in February of 2016. NS1 was (still is; it's been regularly updated since launch) a very solid virtual analog synth instrument with some very cool sounds and, while programmable by the user, the control set was not so complex that synth newbies would find it too … [Read more...]

n-Track Pro updated – n-Track Software’s multi-platform DAW/sequencer gets some tweaks

While I'm a self-confessed Cubasis fan (and a Cubase user on the desktop), iOS has a number of really good options when it comes to DAW/sequencers. One of those that obviously has a solid user base is n-Track which I reviewed on the blog some time ago. One of the advantages of n-Track is that it is cross-platform; it exists on the desktop (Windows and OSX), iOS and Android. This multi-platform approach might well make it very appealing to some potential users as it means projects can perhaps … [Read more...]

Ruismaker update – both of Bram Bos’ iOS AUi plugin drum machines go to v.2.0

It's almost exactly a year since Bram Bos launched both Ruismaker and Ruismaker FM, his two iOS drum apps that are delivered in an AU plugin format. Both are interesting not because they feature some uber-complex and sophisticated drum programming options but perhaps because they are designed to be the opposite of that; drum synths that are easy to program, have modest demands on the iOS hardware host and very easy to get to grips with. And Bram has not let the grass grow under his feet; … [Read more...]

MultitrackStudio for iPad update – Giel Bremmers iOS recording app gets some tweaks

As I posted back in September last year, MultitrackStudio for iPad by Giel Bremmers was the first iOS DAW/sequencer app to get support for hosting Apple's new Audio Unit (AU) plugin format for iOS. And, while MultitrackStudio perhaps doesn't have the profile of the likes of GarageBand, Auria Pro or Cubasis, it is a very solid and well-featured audio+MIDI recoding package and it was great to see Giel being so quick off the mark to support the new plugin format. Anyway, AU - both in terms of … [Read more...]

BeatMaker 3 updated – first significant update to v.3 of Intua’s iOS DAW/sequencer

Intua's BeatMaker has been around on the App Store in one form or another for a very long time. BeatMaker 2, despite its name, is a full-fledged music production environment and I reviewed the app a few years ago here on the blog. However, the long-awaited update to BeatMaker 3 took place a few weeks ago and delivered a major overhaul and some significant new features. BeatMaker 3 is a pretty deep app - but, along with some familiar features and elements to the UI, there are also many new … [Read more...]

Pumphouse review – Audio Damage offer side-chain compression without the need for a side-chain

As I've posted over the last few weeks, Audio Damage are a developer on an iOS mission, with several new releases, many of which are based upon ports of their highly-regarded desktop plugins. As well as the recent Phosphor 2 synth release, we have also seen Rough Rider 2, Grind Distortion, Eos 2, Dubstation 2, FuzzPlus 3, QuatroMod and Replicant 2, all within the last few weeks. And there is no sign of any let up as we now have the release of a further new iOS app; Pumphouse. If the title … [Read more...]
