Bram Bos updates – Troublemaker, Ripplemaker and Ruismaker all updated with MIDI out

I reviewed all of Bram Bos' various iOS music apps here on the blog including Troublemaker, Ripplemaker, Ruismaker and Ruismaker FM. They are all very good indeed, but the first two on this list are something special. I suspect both will make my 'top 10 of 2017' list when the time rolls around. Anyway, all four of these apps received similar updates on the App Store late yesterday. As well as 'minor housekeeping', there are some interesting - and very welcome - new features. For example, all … [Read more...]

Ravenscroft 275 Piano updated – UVI tweak their excellent iOS piano instrument

I posted a full review of UVI's Ravenscroft 275 Piano app just after it was launched. The app has caused a bit of a stir amongst iOS piano players and many folk think the sound and dynamic response of Ravenscroft make it the best acoustic piano app we currently have. The virtual instrument is obviously intended to be a recreation of the high regarded (and very expensive) Ravenscroft 275 grand piano which – if you are into hardware acoustic pianos – comes with a specification to die for. UVI … [Read more...]

Ruismaker giveaway results – two winners of both of Bram Bos’ iOS AUi plugin drum machines

As I posted a couple of days ago, Bram Bos has just updated both his Ruismaker iOS drum machine apps to include a very clever (and very creative) Euclidean pattern sequencer. Alongside,  Phasemaker, Troublemaker and Ripplemaker synth apps , Bram has, over the last 12 months or so, built an impressive catalogue of iOS music apps. All five include AU plugin support and, when used stand-alone, all five now offer excellent phrase-based pattern sequencing. Given the potential that Audio Units … [Read more...]

Ruismaker update – both of Bram Bos’ iOS AUi plugin drum machines go to v.2.0

It's almost exactly a year since Bram Bos launched both Ruismaker and Ruismaker FM, his two iOS drum apps that are delivered in an AU plugin format. Both are interesting not because they feature some uber-complex and sophisticated drum programming options but perhaps because they are designed to be the opposite of that; drum synths that are easy to program, have modest demands on the iOS hardware host and very easy to get to grips with. And Bram has not let the grass grow under his feet; … [Read more...]

Jubal Flute review – Embertone port their beautiful virtual wooden flute instrument to iOS

As I reported a few months ago, Embertone - with collaboration from Blue Mangoo (a developer well know to iOS musicians through their iFretless apps) - released a  virtual saxophone instrument for iOS - Sensual Sax - as a port of one of their desktop virtual instrument products. Creating realistic sounding solo instruments from samples can be quite a challenge but, within some stylistic limits, Sensual Sax does a great job and can be used to create some very authentic sounding … [Read more...]

Bram Bos updates – Troublemaker, Ripplemaker and Phasemaker all updated

They are all very good indeed, but the first two on this list are something special. I suspect both will make my 'top 10 of 2017' list when the time rolls around. Anyway, all three apps received similar updates on the App Store late yesterday. As well as 'minor housekeeping', the key change listed is 'optimisations for use with BeatMaker 3'. I suspect this is mostly involved … [Read more...]

Ravenscroft 275 Piano updated – UVI refine the performance of their excellent iOS piano instrument

Ripplemaker giveaway results – five winners of brilliant AU modular iOS synth

As I mentioned when reviewing Troublemaker from Bram Bos in early January, that app is already a favourite for inclusion in my ‘top 10 iOS music apps of 2017’ when I get to mull over that annual thought process in a few months time. So, you will forgive me if I was a little excited by the arrival of Bram’s latest app – Ripplemaker – which arrived on the App Store a couple of weeks ago. Ripplemaker is described as a ‘West Coast Flavoured Modular Synth’ and....  well, I wasn't disappointed; … [Read more...]
