iMini updated – Arturia tweak the Audiobus support in their iOS Minimoog recreation

We have a stack of excellent iOS synth apps available on the App Store and, amongst them, are some truly excellent recreations of classic hardware synths from the past. There are a number of developers that specialise in this sort of product, both on the desktop and under iOS, but Arturia are certainly amongst the top-tier in this regard. I've reviewed iMini, iSEM and iProphet here on the blog in the past (and Arturia also make the excellent iSpark drum machine) and all are excellent. They … [Read more...]

iSEM updated – Arturia’s Oberheim SEM virtual synth gets some tweaks

Arturia tend to keep the updates to a minimum once they have something that is working well. As such, having given the excellent iSEM synth app a spruce up to provide iOS9 support back in September, the most recent update was in November. It was, however, quite a big on as it added Audio Unit (AU) support to the app; iSEM claimed the 'first off the blocks' award in the AU virtual instrument category. While we now have a handful of AUi apps, it's an impressive sight to see iSEM operating in … [Read more...]

iSpark update – Arturia’s super-slick take on the virtual drum machine gets some tweaks

If you are an iPad- or iPhone-owning musician, and you have been hanging around the App Store for any length of time, then I suspect you will be well aware of just how many excellent virtual drum, groove and rhythm instruments there now are available in a very modestly priced app format. These do, of course, come in a range of flavours, whether that’s virtual acoustic drummers (for example DrumPerfect Pro or Luis Martinez’s various ‘drummer’ apps), recreations of classic drum machine hardware … [Read more...]

Those readers who have any experience of music making on desktop computers over the last few years will probably be very familiar with the Arturia brand. The French-based company have been … [Read more...]

Arturia sale – Black Friday approaches and iSEM, iProphet and iMini are 50% off for a limited time

Those readers who have any experience of music making on desktop computers over the last few years will probably be familiar with the Arturia brand. The French-based company have been making music software and hardware for some time and they specialise in collaborations with hardware synth manufacturers and many of their products are recreations of classic hardware synth that are now either too rare for most musicians to own or simply so highly prized in their original hardware form that they … [Read more...]

iSEM updated – Arturia’s Oberheim SEM virtual synth becomes first iOS AU virtual instrument

Arturia tend to keep the updates to a minimum once they have something that is working well. As such, having given the excellent iSEM synth app a spruce up to provide iOS9 support a few weeks ago, it was quite a surprise to see a further update appear on the App Store late yesterday. However, perhaps the biggest surprise was that the headline addition to iSEM is support for  the new Audio Units (AU) format available under iOS9. And while we already have one AU DAW/sequencer host - … [Read more...]

iProphet update – Arturia tweak their Prophet emulation for iOS9

Arturia will be very well know to most computer-based musicians for their range of both hardware and software products. They make some excellent hardware synths and MIDI controller keyboards but, perhaps are best known for their software recreations of classic synths of old… virtual versions of the kinds of synths that any self-respecting synth fan would love to own in their original hardware format but (a) doesn’t have the space for and, more significantly, (b) couldn’t afford the insurance for … [Read more...]
