RP-1 and RF-1 updates – further tweaks for AU-friendly iOS delay and reverb apps

Download from iTunes App StoreI reviewed the excellent RP-1  and RF-1 apps from Numercial Audio developer Kai Aras here on the Music App Blog when when both first launched. They provides compact, but well-featured delay and reverb effects respectively and both are capable of conventional and more creative treatments.

Both RF-1 and RP-1 are universal apps, requires iOS9.0 or later, are approximately 30MB downloads and are individually priced at just UK£5.99/US$5.99. RF-1 As well as launching with Audiobus and IAA support, both apps also included both Ableton Link and Audio Units (AU) support. The latter means that you can, of course, run multiple instances of the app within a suitable AU host such as MultitrackStudioCubasis, Modstep or AUM.

The UI of both apps works brilliantly for the AU format…. as shown here within AUM.

Anyway, developer Kai has kept the pace of development going and both apps received updates on the App Store yesterday. Both apps have identical changes. Aside fro some minor fixes and performance improvements, support has been added for Audiobus 3. In addition, MIDI support has been added when the apps are used in stand-alone mode allowing control of the app’s parameters via external MIDI CCs. I’ve not yet had a chance to fully test the latter, but having given the updates a bit of a spin within Cubasis, AUM and Audiobus this morning, all seems to be working well at this end….

Both apps ran smoothly within Audiobus 3 including multiple AU instances.

There is little not to like about either RP-1 or RF-1 and it’s great to see (a) a developer who is obviously so active and (b) keen to embrace the AU format. And, at just UK£5.99/US$5.99, either app can be seen as a pocket money purchase. No fuss to use, they sound great and are very affordable. Read the full RF-1 and RP-1 reviews here….   but, otherwise, both come highly recommended so hit the download buttons to find out more via the App Store.

    1. Outside of Fab Filters, this pair are probably the best delay and reverb for IOS.
