iMaschine 2 ON SALE – Native Instruments offer their IOS groove production app at 50% off

Download from iTunes App StoreiMaschine 2 logo 1Native Instruments make the truly wonderful (also powerful, widely supported by 3rd party sample library developers and not cheap) Kontakt software sampler for desktop music production systems. Kontakt is probably my most used sampler/virtual instrument and it will be used somewhere in almost every desktop production I write.

I’m therefore a big NI software fan….  but have yet to give into the temptation of their hardware….  The hardware range includes Maschine which is a top-notch professional ‘music production meets sampler meets groove production’ device with a suitably professional price tag (around €600 here in Europe). Electronic music producers with a suitable budget have adopted the very slick, performance-orientated, hardware for beat production in both the studio and for live use; this really is a very powerful system.

iMaschine 2 - new features from NI in a new app.

iMaschine 2 – there were lots of refinements from NI in their iMaschine app in it’s v.2. iteration.

However, NI also have a presence on the App Store and, not so long ago, I reviewed v.2 of the iMaschine app. iMaschine is, of course, a sort of iOS sized take on Native Instrument’s flagship hardware/software combination mentioned above and, while a universal iOS music app with a usual price of just UK£9.99/US$9.99 is not going to offer quite the same user experience as a hardware/software combination costing many times that amount, the basic concept is the same. iMachine provides you with a combination of sample-based drum and keyboard instruments, easy pattern creation, options for recording and editing your own samples and using these within your patterns, and a range of ‘performance’ effects including delays and filters.

Anyway, iMaschine 2 is great value at full price but, if you are quick off the mark, you can currently pick it up for just UK£4.99/US$4.99 as part of what I’m assuming is an Easter sale promotion. Bargain :-)

If you are a user of the Maschine hardware/software combination and happen to also be an iOS user, then iMaschine 2 is a no-brainer. While there are competing apps such as the excellent BeatHawk (or, if you want to get something with a broader feature set, Gadget), iMaschine 2 is most certainly worth a look for electronic music producers with an iOS app habit. 1. I wonder why imaschine doesn’t have a piano roll editor.
Beathawk has one now. IMPC Pro has one.
