Addictive Pro updated – VirSyn add Ableton Link support to their latest iOS synth app

Download from iTunes App Storeaddictive-pro-logo-1VirSyn are one of the software developers that have fully embraced the iOS platform. They have gradually developed a very impressive catalogue of iOS music apps many or which – Tera SynthmicroTERAHarmony VoiceAddictive Synth, Tap Delay, Emo Chorus, Posiedon Synth, Voxsyn and Arpeggist, for example – I’ve reviewed here previously on the Music App Blog.

I reviewed the latest addition to that lineup – the hotly anticipated Addictive Pro synth – just last week. The iPad-only app is a 40MB download and requires iOS8.0 or later. It arrives with Audiobus support (including State Saving, IAA, Core MIDI, MIDI Learn and support for alternative scales via the virtual piano keyboard.

As well as loving the sounds and being super-impressed with the 4-track arpeggiator in the new release, I did also wonder whether we might, at some stage, see support for Ableton Link and AU. Both of these technologies are something that iOS musicians in general are keen to see spreading across the platform….   and while I can fully appreciate that AU is a significant undertaking in an app as deep as Addictive Pro, VirSyn have been pretty quick off the mark in adding Ableton Link support; it arrived this morning in the v.1.1.0 update.

Indeed, v.1.1.0 brings both support for Ableton Link and IAA-based sync. I’ve not had a chance as yet to do any rigorous testing of either but, having given the Ableton Link support a quick run through this morning, Addictive Pro seemed very happy to follow tempo set by Patterning. When using Addictive pro’s excellent arpeggiator, tempo sync between apps is obviously a big plus so this feature addiction is great to see. Incidentally, the update also delivers a few minor bug fixes….

Anyway, check out the original full review of Addictive Pro for further details but, with Ableton Link and IAA sync now included, it is an even better buy. Oh, and as the introductory price of just UK£8.99/US$11.99 still holds – that is 40% off what will becomes the eventual price – if you are an iOS synth junkie, I suspect you are going to be very tempted to add Addictive Pro to your collection….  if so, now is the time to grab a copy so hit the download button :-)

    1. Hi, Could you explain in detail the setup whereby you were able to get Addictive Pro’s arpeggiator synced to Patterning? I am having ZERO joy getting Addictive Pro to sync to anything. I’d sure appreciate any advice. Thanks.
