Phlox Phaser update – first of the ‘floral series’ iOS effects apps gets AU support

Bells and whistles are all very well in your software but, when a developer tries to add every conceivable feature into an application, things can get just too complicated. You end up with a maze of choices, 90% of which you might never use. That's not a criticism anyone is going to level at the iOS audio effects apps from developers Timothy Barraclough and Paul Mathews. I've looked at a number of these 'floral series' apps here on the blog - Phlox Phaser, Dahlia Delay, Tiger-lily Tremolo, … [Read more...]

Dahlia Delay review – the ‘flora’ project adds a new app to its streamlined iOS audio effects series

I reviewed two new iOS audio effects apps from developers Timothy Barraclough and Paul Mathews a few weeks ago on the blog - Cactus Chorus and Phlox Phaser - and the team followed up with the equally floral themed Buttercup Bitcrush soon afterwards. Surprise, surprise, these are chorus, phaser and bit reduction effects respectively. All three apps are universal, require iOS7.0 or later and are supplied with Audiobus and IAA support... and, for the budget conscious, all are currently priced at … [Read more...]

Cornflower Compressor review – the ‘flora’ project iOS music app collection gets a new addition

I've no idea where the whole 'flora' theme comes from for developers Timothy Barraclough and Paul Mathews but their series of stripped-down, stompbox ethic, iOS audio effects apps are all very good indeed. I've reviewed all the apps in the series  - Cactus Chorus, Phlox Phaser, Saffron Saturator, Buttercup Bitcrush, Dahlia Delay and Tiger-lily Tremolo - previously here on the blog and, at genuine pocket money prices, they are about as an obvious casual purchase as you are likely to find. A … [Read more...]

Cactus Chorus update – AUv.3 supported added to another Flora Project app

I know, very slow of me, but the last (I think that's now them all?) of the 'flora' series of iOS effects apps from the development team of Timothy Barraclough and Paul Mathews - Cactus Chorus - was updated a week or so ago, taking the app to v.2.0. As with the other apps in the flora series, this 2.0 update brings support for Audio Units (AUv.3), preset saving within a suitable AU host, performance enhancements and improved stability. The new versions seems quite happy hosted within AUM and, … [Read more...]

Buttercup Bitcrush update – second of the ‘flora’ iOS audio effect apps gets AU support

As I posted earlier this week, Saffron Saturator - the compact overdrive effects app withinTimothy Barraclough and Paul Mathews's 'flora' series of iOS music apps - got an overhaul with a significant update bring Audio Unit (AU) support. This whole series of apps are absolutely ideal for the AU format; each does a single, simple, job, they come with a compact set of controls and, even by iOS standards, they are available at a bargain price. The second of the series has now had the same … [Read more...]

Saffron Saturator update – the ‘flora’ project iOS music apps start to go AU

Back in 2015, developers Timothy Barraclough and Paul Mathews released a series of iOS audio effects apps with a naming convention based on a floral theme. No, I've no idea what the whole floral theme is about either but the apps - Cactus Chorus, Phlox Phaser, Buttercup Bitcrush, Dahlia Delay and Saffron Saturator - all followed a similar format; all supported Audiobus and IAA, all offered very simple user interfaces and all were available at a budget price (even for the App Store). I've … [Read more...]
