DC-9 Overdrive update – Blamsoft tweak their iOS AU overdrive plugin

The ‘new for iOS9’ Audio Units (AU) plugin format has now been with us for a few months but, in the last week or so, has received a bit of a boost with a number of new AU-formatted iOS music apps appearing. Topping that list was probably the announcement yesterday that Klevgränd Produktion have added AU support to six of their iOS apps but we also saw the launch of the new zMors EQ app in an AU-only format. However, one developer who had already taken the AU plunge full on is Blamsoft with a … [Read more...]

Viking Synth update – Blamsoft tweak their iOS AU instrument plugin

Blamsoft will be familiar to some iOS musicians through their series of Audio Units (AU) iOS effects apps. Indeed, if it wasn’t for Blamsoft, the AU cupboard would currently look quite threadbare. However, the company have their roots in developing extensions for Propellerhead’s Reason and many of their iOS offerings are, in effect, ports of software they have developed for Reason. Viking Synth falls into that category but, as it represents Blamsoft’s first iOS synth (as opposed to audio … [Read more...]

DC-9 Overdrive review – Blamsoft add some overdrive to their iOS AU plugin collection

The ‘new for iOS9’ Audio Units (AU) plugin format has now been with us for a few months but I think it is fair to say that the impact of this technology has, so far at least, been somewhat muted. Like all new (well, in this case, new to iOS at least) software technologies it is undoubtedly going to take developers some time to establish what potential AU may hold for them. We did have a few early adopters with MultitrackStudio for iPad becoming the first DAW/sequencer able to host AU plugins … [Read more...]

Viking Synth review – Blamsoft add a first iOS AU instrument plugin to their catalogue

I did some revisions to my ‘best iOS synths apps’ roundup article not so long ago and, as I commented at the time, this is a category of iOS music app where the choice is abundant and the quality can be very high. That doesn’t, however, seem to deter developers from offering us some further choices; enter, stage left, Viking Synth from Blamsoft. Blamsoft will be familiar to some iOS musicians through their series of Audio Units (AU) iOS effects apps. Indeed, if it wasn’t for Blamsoft, the AU … [Read more...]

Resampler review – Blamsoft add a third iOS AU plugin to their catalogue

A couple of months ago we saw the first signs of activity with the ‘new for iOS9’ Audio Units (AU) plugin format with MultitrackStudio for iPad becoming the first DAW/sequencer able to host AU plugins and Remaster the first AU effects plugin. Like all new (well, in this case, new to iOS at least) software technologies it is undoubtedly going to take developers some time to establish what potential AU may hold for them. It’s difficult to imagine that more effects and/or virtual instruments … [Read more...]

Less is more; part 6 – a compact ‘AU-only’ iOS music app collection for music production

When I did my usual crystal ball gazing and ‘wish listing’ post to mark the end of 2016 and the start of 2017, I speculated – and hoped – that this year might (finally) see the Audio Units plugin format make a real impact under iOS. This wasn’t a risky prediction, nor an unusual wish, as I’m sure lots of iOS music makers would have shared both thoughts. Indeed, many would also comment ‘about time’ considering AU was first introduced by Apple in iOS9 and we are only a few months away from seeing … [Read more...]
