FuxEQ review – Matthias Rath updates his 7-band EQ AU plugin for iOS11

While adoption of Apple’s Audio Unit (AU) plugin format has ben a bit of a slow burner under iOS, the last few months has really seen the format tack hold. Yes, we are still waiting to see some developers embrace the format (there remain some technical and financial issues I'm sure) but lots of iOS musicians are now working with the AU format, if not exclusively, then predominantly.   iOS11 is obviously the latest 'technical' hoop that developers are having to jump through....  but it … [Read more...]

FAC Chorus for OSX – classy chorus app ported to OSX as an AU plugin

FAC Chorus arrived on the App Store a few of weeks ago and I wrote a full review of the iOS version recently here on the blog. I was suitably impressed and, in terms of basics, the app is universal, requires iOS 10.0 or later and is a modest 19MB download. It is also modestly priced at just UK£2.99/US$2.99; very much in the casual purchase price range. What's perhaps less modest is the feature set. As shown in the various screenshots (and I'll get to in more detail in a minute), the apps … [Read more...]

FuxEQ review – Matthias Rath delivers a 7-band EQ as an iOS AU plugin

Apple’s adaptation of their Audio Unit (AU) plugin format has ben a bit of a slow burner under iOS. There have perhaps been a combination of factors that have meant progress has been slower than most iOS music makers might have liked and, while there are undoubtedly still some aspects of the AU spec that require refinement, we are now seeing a significant rise in the number of AU capable apps. The potential of the format is obvious. The plugin is hosted within your DAW/sequencer (or other AU … [Read more...]

DC-9 Overdrive review – Blamsoft add some overdrive to their iOS AU plugin collection

The ‘new for iOS9’ Audio Units (AU) plugin format has now been with us for a few months but I think it is fair to say that the impact of this technology has, so far at least, been somewhat muted. Like all new (well, in this case, new to iOS at least) software technologies it is undoubtedly going to take developers some time to establish what potential AU may hold for them. We did have a few early adopters with MultitrackStudio for iPad becoming the first DAW/sequencer able to host AU plugins … [Read more...]

F-16 Filter review – Blamsoft add a further iOS AU plugin to their catalogue

Resampler review – Blamsoft add a third iOS AU plugin to their catalogue

A couple of months ago we saw the first signs of activity with the ‘new for iOS9’ Audio Units (AU) plugin format with MultitrackStudio for iPad becoming the first DAW/sequencer able to host AU plugins and Remaster the first AU effects plugin. Like all new (well, in this case, new to iOS at least) software technologies it is undoubtedly going to take developers some time to establish what potential AU may hold for them. It’s difficult to imagine that more effects and/or virtual instruments … [Read more...]

MicSwap Pro update – Future Moments bring AU plugin support to their mic simulation app

About 12 months ago, I reviewed what I think was the first example of microphone modelling technology for iOS; MicSwap from developer Future Moments. MicSwap is a universal app and is supplied in two forms; a free version (with some feature restrictions) and a ‘Pro’ version (which is what I tried out; currently UK£14.99). The app works with iOS7.1 or later. The app simulates a number of different microphone types and these are depicted in some fairly obvious graphics so you can make a good … [Read more...]

Zero Chorus review – Blamsoft add a second iOS AU plugin to their catalogue
