Zeeon Synth review – BeepStreet’s a new iPad synth sounds great and includes AU support

BeepStreet are perhaps best known for their Sunrizer synth app which has been around on the App Store for a long time and has a dedicated following amongst the long-standing iOS synth fanatics. They also offer the excellent Impaktor drum synth which perhaps doesn't have quite the profile it deserves. This week, however, they have added a new app to their iOS catalogue and, yes, while it is another synth app (and, yes, we probably all have more of these that we actually need!), Zeeon Synth … [Read more...]

FAC Chorus updated – classy chorus app in an AU format gets new features

FAC Chorus arrived on the App Store a few of weeks ago and I wrote a full review it recently here on the blog. I was suitably impressed and, in terms of basics, the app is universal, requires iOS 10.0 or later and is a modest 19MB download. It is also modestly priced at just UK£2.99/US$2.99; very much in the casual purchase price range. What's perhaps less modest is the feature set. As shown in the various screenshots (and I'll get to in more detail in a minute), the apps offers a rather nice … [Read more...]

Ruismaker giveaway results – two winners of both of Bram Bos’ iOS AUi plugin drum machines

As I posted a couple of days ago, Bram Bos has just updated both his Ruismaker iOS drum machine apps to include a very clever (and very creative) Euclidean pattern sequencer. Alongside,  Phasemaker, Troublemaker and Ripplemaker synth apps , Bram has, over the last 12 months or so, built an impressive catalogue of iOS music apps. All five include AU plugin support and, when used stand-alone, all five now offer excellent phrase-based pattern sequencing. Given the potential that Audio Units … [Read more...]

Vatanator giveaway results – three winners of Georgi Georiev’s streamlined drum machine

I’ve reviewed a whole range of different drum and groove apps for the blog over the last few years. These comes in all sorts of shapes and sizes and, within any iOS musician’s app collection, there is most certainly room for a number of these tools as, across the whole range, they offer different features, functions and approaches to working. One recent release in this category is Vatanator. This is the first app by developer Georgi Georgiev and I did a full review of the app on the blog soon … [Read more...]

Phosphor 2 review – does Audio Damage’s first iOS synth hit the sweet spot?

Audio Damage appear to be on a mission when it comes to iOS music apps at present. I've reviewed Rough Rider 2, Grind Distortion, Eos 2, Dubstation 2, QuatroMod, Pumphouse and Replicant 2 all within the last couple of months. However, as I reported a few weeks ago, Audio Damage have also added a synth app to their catalogue; Phosphor 2. The effects apps have been universally well received....  so is Phosphor 2 keep up the high standard? And where does it sit within the very crowded iOS synth … [Read more...]

MV08 update – cool 808-inspired drum machine app gets new features

OK, so I know iOS is not short of really good drum apps so long-standing iOS music makers might find it hard to get too excited by the prospect of a new options....   but recently released MV08 from developer MVStudioApps (with James Milton behind the wheel) is rather cool....  and, while I have not yet got around to doing a full review, as it has just received it's first update, I thought I better give it a little attention here on the blog. MV08 is, sonically at least, inspired by a … [Read more...]

NFM update – new iOS FM synth app with AU support gets some tweaks

I posted a full review of NFM - a well=featured FM-based synth with AU support by developer Nikolozi Meladze - recently on the Music App Blog. Regular iOS music makers will also recall the review of Niko's NS1 synth back in February of 2016. NS1 was (still is; it's been regularly updated since launch) a very solid virtual analog synth instrument with some very cool sounds and, while programmable by the user, the control set was not so complex that synth newbies would find it too … [Read more...]

n-Track Pro updated – n-Track Software’s multi-platform DAW/sequencer gets some tweaks

While I'm a self-confessed Cubasis fan (and a Cubase user on the desktop), iOS has a number of really good options when it comes to DAW/sequencers. One of those that obviously has a solid user base is n-Track which I reviewed on the blog some time ago. One of the advantages of n-Track is that it is cross-platform; it exists on the desktop (Windows and OSX), iOS and Android. This multi-platform approach might well make it very appealing to some potential users as it means projects can perhaps … [Read more...]
