Ripplemaker giveaway – five copies of brilliant AU modular iOS synth to be won

As I mentioned when reviewing Troublemaker from Bram Bos in early January, that app is already a favourite for inclusion in my ‘top 10 iOS music apps of 2017’ when I get to mull over that annual thought process in a few months time. So, you will forgive me if I was a little excited by the arrival of Bram’s latest app – Ripplemaker – which arrived on the App Store a couple of weeks ago. Ripplemaker is described as a ‘West Coast Flavoured Modular Synth’ and....  well, I wasn't disappointed; … [Read more...]

Mersenne updated – iceWorks add AU support and sale pricing for their iOS FM synth

There are, of course, no shortages of iOS music apps that offer virtual synthesis and we are blessed with some fabulous synth apps that run under iOS. Slightly left-of-centre options amongst this lot include the various offerings by iceWorks (iceGear) and include the likes of  Lorentz, Laplace and, more recently, Redshrike. The list also includes Mersenne which I reviewed some 15 months or so ago when it was first released. The synth engine offers two FM-based sound sources (Tone A and Tone … [Read more...]

Eos 2 released – Audio Damage keep the iOS AU ports coming

No sooner than I'd reviewed both Rough Rider 2 and Grind Distortion by Audio Damage then they release another iOS music app; Eos 2. Audio Damage have built quite a reputation as creators of desktop plugins over the last few years and it's great to see the software being ported over to iOS...  and they are obviously on a bit of a roll :-) Eos 2 is a further such port and, in this case, we have an algorithmic reverb. The iOS version apparently brings exactly the same features as the desktop … [Read more...]

Ravenscroft 275 Piano review – UVI add to their iOS offerings with heavyweight piano instrument

Regular iOS music makers will be very familiar with the UVI brand through their excellent BeatHawk electronic music production app. While the company have a long track record in sample libraries/virtual instruments for the desktop, BeatHawk was (and still is) an impressive debut under iOS and UVI have simply added to the feature set with every update. However, as I posted a few days ago, they have now launched a new iOS app from UVI; Ravenscroft 275 Piano. While I’m not absolutely certain of … [Read more...]

Grind Distortion review – Audio Damage brings some distortion to your iOS reality

I reviewed Audio Damage's Rough Rider 2 a week or so ago here on the Music App Blog. However, as I mentioned just a couple of days ago, they have soon followed up Rough Rider 2 with Grind Distortion. There are, of course, no prizes for guessing the main purpose of this particular plugin effect app :-) Audio Damage have built quite a reputation as creators of desktop plugins over the last few years but Rough Rider 2 and Grind Distortion marked their first toe into iOS waters....  These first … [Read more...]

Ravenscroft 275 Piano launched – UVI deliver an iOS piano app with a seriously good spec

However, today sees the launch of a new iOS app from UVI; Ravenscroft 275 Piano. Now, we already have a number of very impressive virtual piano … [Read more...]

BeatMirror giveaway – 5 copies of Ten Kettles’ tempo-testing app to be won

I reviewed Ten Kettles latest app - BeatMirror - a few days ago here on the Music App Blog. The app falls into the 'musical eduction' category and is aimed primarily at drummers. And, as discussed in the review, while the app is extremely simple to use (although there are a bunch of new features on the development list apparently), in this case, 'simple' most certainly doesn't mean the same as 'not useful'. BeatMirror's function is quite straightforward; it gives you feedback on your ability … [Read more...]

Quincy IAP giveaway – 5 copies of the Module Collection IAP pack to be won

I included Quincy (currently UK£3.99/US$4.99) from RoGame Software in my iOS generative music apps roundup a while ago. Quincy is a sort of abstract ambient music generator and the app uses an underlying algorithm that is based upon the Game of Life pattern generation process. You ‘seed’ the musical idea with a graphical pattern of cells and a set of rules are then applied that dictate which cells remain alive, which die and which new cells are ‘born’. And, as the pattern changes on the … [Read more...]

DM2 giveaway results – 5 winners of Audionomy’s excellent iOS drum synth app

I was hugely impressed when I originally reviewed DM2 drum synth from Pascal Douillard's  Audionomy development team straight after release. DM2 made a brilliant debut and, while it had enough features to keep the more experienced drum programmers happy, it is also very accessible to those new to drum machine programming or drum synthesis. The team have also kept a steady stream of updates arriving since the initial release, with v.1.5 arriving just a few days ago and adding an excellent MIDI … [Read more...]
