Gadget news – Korg announce slight delay to Mac Gadget release date

I generally don't do too many 'coming soon....' items here on the Music App Blog as I'd rather wait until something is actually available. However, occasionally, something particular catches my attention.... And, as I posted a few weeks ago, Korg most certainly caught my (and lots of other I suspect) attention with their pre-NAMM announcement that Gadget was coming to OSX. When it comes to 'all-in-one' electronic music production apps available for iOS, Korg's Gadget is one of best options … [Read more...]

NoLimits giveaway results – 10 winners of AU format iOS limiter from DDMF

A little while ago, I posted a reviews of the new(ish) 6144 EQ and Envelope Reverb iOS audio effects apps from DDMF and developer Christian Siedschlag. Both of these are very capable audio processors in their own right but, given the desire from many iOS musicians to see the AU plugin format really take hold, the fact that both are also available as AU plugins only is also of considerable interest. Both apps worked very smoothly for me when used within AU hosts such as Cubasis and … [Read more...]

Audio Evolution Mobile Studio update – further updates to new iOS DAW/sequencer

If you look at the desktop marketplace, the world is not short of DAW/sequencer options. And, if the likes of, for example, Cubasis, GarageBand or Auria Pro don't float your particular boat, as I posted a few weeks ago, there is now a further option for you to consider; Audio Evolution Mobile Studio. As I discussed in the full review, I was impressed with the basic concept, the conventional design approach (which makes for a modest learning curve) and the sensible core feature selection. The … [Read more...]

Modstep updated – AppBC add bring further additions to their iOS MIDI sequencer for iPad

Regular iOS music makers will be familiar with AppBC as the developer behind Studiomux and Modstep apps. The latter includes some of the Studiomux technology but also offers a fully-blown MIDI sequencer with both step sequencing and piano roll editing environments. If your music making revolves around MIDI, rather than audio recording, then Modstep is a powerful option for sequencing on your iPad. I did a full review of Modstep just after it was launched and the feature set is impressive. You … [Read more...]

ReBirth updated – Propellerhead give their classic EDM production tool some love

If you know anything about electronic music production software, Propellerhead’s ReBirth will be a familiar name. Indeed, ReBirth was a precursor to Reason and, while it doesn’t offer the power and versatility of something like Reason, it is still considered something of a classic. ReBirth was introduced for the desktop back in 1997. It was, itself, an ‘emulation’ of something else…  the software attempted to reproduce the sounds and features of the Roland TB-303 Bass Line synth and both … [Read more...]

Ops giveaway results – five winners of Jonathan MacKenzie’s new iOS modular synth

I make this confession regularly on the blog – I’m no great expert when it comes to synth programming – and such a confession is all the more apt when we are taking about not just programming synths but actually designing your own synth from scratch. Yes, modular synths, of which we have a good few examples available under iOS, are something that are, at any detailed level, well out of my comfort zone. That doesn’t mean I’m not interested though and I reviewed an excellent new modular synth … [Read more...]

midiSTEPs giveaway – 5 copies of beautifully designed four-part iOS MIDI sequencer to be won

I reviewed midiSTEPs on the blog just after it was released. There is some considerable iOS pedigree behind midiSTEPs as the developer is Art Kerns who will be well known to regular iOS musicians through apps such as midiLFOs and Funkbox, both of which I’ve reviewed here on the Music App Blog in the past. MidiSTEPs, at one level, is a fairly conventional step-based pattern sequencer with patterns featuring up to 64 steps (with control over step-length relative to the musical grid) and you can … [Read more...]

Harmony Voice update – VirSyn tweak their iOS vocal app

I reviewed VirSyn’s Harmony Voice music app a while back (you can read that review here) and was impressed to see this type of vocal processing – familiar to desktop musicians for some time – starting to appear for iOS. The app also got Audiobus support added in a subsequent update and then IAA support. As the app’s name suggests, Harmony Voice produces vocal harmonies based upon your audio input and the pitch of these four-part harmonies can be produced either automatically by the app or … [Read more...]

Elastic Drums updated – Oliver Greschke’s brilliant iOS drum app gets further tweaks

If you are a regular visitor to the Music App Blog you might well be familiar with Elastic Drums from developer Oliver Greschke and Mouse On Mars. As I mentioned just a couple of weeks ago, the app recently underwent a significant update to v.2.0.  Having added support for using drum samples (via an IAP) in v.1.9, v.2.0 added Ableton Live Set Export features, re-vamped the sample import process and made further sample-based kits available via the in-app store. Oliver is, however, one of … [Read more...]
