AmpliTube Acoustic review – IK Multimedia bring amp and effects modelling for the acoustic guitar player

IK Multimedia will need little by way of introduction to most iOS music makers and their catalogue of both software and hardware products aimed at the iOS musician is an impressive one. I’ve reviewed a good number of their products here on the Music App Blog over the last few years and the most recent hardware item was the iRig Acoustic mic/pickup system designed (surprise, surprise!) with acoustic guitar players in mind. I was suitably impressed with the iRig Acoustic hardware. It provides a … [Read more...]

Black Friday to Cyber Monday – still some iOS music app bargains to be had

Well that was a bit of a feeding frenzy wasn't it? Yep, Black Friday delivered some pretty tasty iOS music app bargains for those looking to expand upon their app collections. Here's hoping you managed to pick up a few good deals for yourself over the week-end.... But, of course, Black Friday now merges smoothly into Cyber Monday and, while some of the sale offers I listed for Black Friday (and copied below) might now have expired, a good number of them are still running today. If you have … [Read more...]

Yousician updated – further tweaks for iOS guitar/piano tuition programme from Yousician Ltd

While it started out as a guitar-only tuition programme aimed at beginners but with something to offer the shredder level, in an update at the start of November, Yousician also added a similar piano tuition option to its feature set. I originally reviewed the app a few months ago here on blog and was impressed with the combination of video instruction and interactive graphics (with a very colourful take on guitar tab) as the main basis of the instruction. However, there is also a very … [Read more...]

VocalizeU update – vocal training app by DS Vocology gets iOS9 tweaks

There are a number of useful vocal training iOS music apps available on the App Store including VocalizeU which I originally reviewed back in May 2012; this is, therefore, an app that has been around on the App Store for some time. It has had a number of updates since then but the key elements of the app's feature set and what it attempts to do remain the same (s0 check out the original review for the full details). As might be expected given the title, this is very much a vocal educational … [Read more...]

Attack Drums update – further tweaks for Waldorf Music’s iOS drum synth app

I reviewed Waldorf Music's highly anticipated Attack Drums app on the blog a few days after it was first launched in June. With a launch price of UK£10.99, requiring an iPad running iOS7 or later, and at an 80MB download, Attack Drums is primarily a powerful, 24-part, drum synthesiser - but it is also quite a bit more besides. Indeed, the sound engine can also be used for many other types of synthetic sounds, features a well-specified pattern sequencer, a range of built-in effects types, has … [Read more...]

iDensity update – apeSoft’s multi-stream granulation app further tweaks

Developer apeSoft will be familiar to many iOS musicians through their various iOS music apps and their obvious close collaboration with Amazing Noises and their various iOS music apps. Between these two developer names, I’ve reviewed apps such as apeFilter, Sparkle, Dedalus, apeDelay and DubFilter and, if you have encountered any of these apps then you will know that apeSoft don’t really do ‘conventional’. However, apeSoft also don’t just do audio effects apps…. they also have a line of iOS … [Read more...]

Black Friday sales – time to spend as iOS music apps get bargain prices

Well, here we go again.... the annual consumer fest that is Black Friday and linked with the Thanksgiving week-end in the USA. Thankfully, to get hold of any number iOS music app bargains, you don't have to face the chaose that is actual shopping in actual store - just open iTunes and flex your flexible friend :-) I've listed a number of the apps below that have particularly caught my eye and that are currently on reduced pricing. These kind of sale events are great if there are some apps you … [Read more...]

SilQ review – 32-band graphic equalizer iOS app from TonApp AS

Yes, this is going to be a review of SilQ, a new equalizer app from TonApp AS… but first, bear with me for a little bit of (hopefully useful) EQ background. When it comes to audio processing – whether for live sound or for use within a recording context – there are some key effects/processing options that every musician/mix engineer needs in the tool kit. Many of these are not the ‘ear candy’ creative sort of effects but more the everyday and every mix sort; just essential tools of the … [Read more...]

iRig Acoustic review – IK Multimedia add an acoustic guitar pickup system to their iOS hardware range

IK Multimedia have been keeping very busy of late with their hardware products aimed at the iOS musician. Having looked at the iRig Mic Lav, iRig Keys Pro and the iRig Pro Duo on the Blog over the last few weeks, the latest arrival is the iRig Acoustic. This is quite an interesting (novel?) product as it provides a rather cute-looking (guitar pick shaped) microphone/pickup for acoustic guitars (and also suitable for ukuleles) designed specifically for the iOS musician. There are all sorts of … [Read more...]
