Caustic giveaway – three copies up for grabs

If you have seen my 'top 10 iOS music apps of 2013' post from a few days ago  - and shouted loudly at your browser because you disagree with my choices :-)  - you will know that one brand new iOS app made that list; Caustic from Single Cell Software. Indeed, Caustic is new enough that I haven't - amid all the present wrapping, wine drinking, TV watching and child-appeasing of the last week or so - got around to doing a full review (ah, now done). That will come in a couple of days (now done … [Read more...]

AUFX sale – AUFX series effects apps reduced over New Year

A few days ago I reviewed the latest addition to Jonatan's Liljedahl's excellent AUFX series of iOS effects apps; AUFX:PeakQ. As the name suggests, this is an EQ effect and what you are getting is a four band EQ, with a low and high shelf and two fully parametric bands sat between them. You can use the app within Audiobus or a suitable IAA host such as Cubasis or Auria. I’ve reviewed both AUFX:Space (a reverb effect) and AUFX:Dub (a delay effect) previously on the blog and, with Audiobus and … [Read more...]

Thor sale – Propellerhead’s brilliant iOS synth at a bargain price

Regular readers here will know that I'm a bit of a fan of Propellerhead's Thor - the iOS port of the same synth that is a well-established part of the Reason desktop music production system. Indeed, Thor is probably my favourite iOS synth to date and it was a shoe-in to appear on my 'top 10 iOS music apps of 2013' list. You can read the full review of Thor here but it is a powerful, deeply programmable virtual synth that is capable of a fabulous range of sounds. Whether used in a recording … [Read more...]

Top 10 iOS music apps 2013

Unless you are a bit of a grumpy old s*d, it is difficult to deny that 2013 has been a pretty remarkable year in terms of making music under iOS. While the platform still doesn’t have the power and flexibility of a well-specified desktop music production environment, the introduction of iOS7 (with the benefits of inter-app audio) and the new, more powerful, iPad Air have both contributed to a significant step forward in terms of what is possible using the platform. However, what is perhaps … [Read more...]

AUFX:PeakQ giveaway – 3 copies up for grabs

A few days ago I reviewed the excellent new addition to Jonatan Liljedahl's AUFX series of iOS effects apps; AUFX:PeakQ. As the name suggests, this is an EQ effect and what you are getting is a four band EQ, with a low and high shelf and two fully parametric bands sat between them. You can use the app within Audiobus or a suitable IAA host such as Cubasis or Auria. Jonatan has been kind enough to supply me with three promo codes for AUFX:PeakQ to give away to readers of the Music App Blog. As … [Read more...]

zMors giveaway – 5 copies up for grabs

I posted recently that Sven Braun's rather intriguing zMors virtual analog synth app has now been updated and added inter-app audio support. This seems to work well and obviously opens up some further possibilities for using the app within a wider music productions context for iOS musicians. Sven has been kind enough to supply me with five promo codes for zMors to give away to readers here at the Music App Blog to celebrate the introduction of the IAA support. As usual with the giveaways I … [Read more...]

IK Multimedia sale – bargain hunting time

As I've mentioned a few times over the last couple of weeks, this seems to be a good time of the year of iOS musicians looking for a bargain as lots of app developers seem to have promotional sales going on during the holiday period. IK Multimedia - who are one of the bigger iOS music app developers - are obviously keen to get in on the act and almost all their major apps are now on sale at 50% of their normal price. However, you do need to be quick as the prices only last until January … [Read more...]

AUFX:PeakQ review – Jonatan Liljedahl back with the third AUFX series app

If you are a bit of an iPad music old-hand (and, in iOS terms, that probably means anyone who has been with us more that a few months), then Jonatan Liljedahl will need no introduction. Jonatan is the person behind the excellent AUFX series of iOS audio effects apps. I’ve reviewed both AUFX:Space (a reverb effect) and AUFX:Dub (a delay effect) previously on the blog and, with Audiobus and inter-app audio (IAA) support as standard, both come highly recommended. Jonatan is now back with the … [Read more...]

Sugar Bytes sale – Thesys, WOW Filterbox and Turnado all on sale

I don't know about you, but I'm a huge fan of the iOS apps produced by Sugar Bytes and I've reviewed, Thesys, Turnado and WOW Filterbox on the blog in the past. These are all brilliant and I use all of them on a regular basis (as well as the desktop versions of Turnado and Thesys). I'm not sure how long the offers might be available but all three of the iOS apps are currently on sale on the iTunes App Store. Pre-Christmas is obviously the time to get stocked up on apps! All three of … [Read more...]
